Mondo Mecha – Robotic 12-Inch Figures featuring Marvel, DC and Other Licenses

Posted on July 18, 2018 at 1:32 pm by Joe Moore under Marvel Toy News

A new line of 12″ scale fully articulated action figures have been announced by Mondo. The new figures will features robotic versions of iconic characters as part of the Mondo Mecha line up. The robots themselves will be based on classic mech designs from anime and manga. In some cases these designs will be mixed with iconic characters from other franchises. The first designs revealed feature characters from Marvel Comics. Future releases will include characters from DC Comics, as well as other unnamed licenses. Moviefone was given the first look at the designs, which include the following figures:

  • Black Panther
  • Captain America
  • Spider-Man

In addition to these remixed characters, the line will also feature standard robotic characters, such as Transformers and Iron Giant. The price is listed at $85 per figure. Pricing has not been revealed. The listed price in the Moviefone article is for one of the posters. A prototype of the Spider-Man figure will be on display at San Diego Comic-Con 2018. Read on to check out the designs.

Price was an error. Moviefone has one of the poster prices listed with the Mecha line by mistake.

So, there is an intentional link to popular mecha designs. I still think they played it too way safe.

That's not a coincidence. For better or worse, they are specifically marketing them as a mix with iconic mecha designs.

Definitely like Black Panther's. Want that one.
Loving how the spider-man one looks like Sp//dr. Might have to get that one too since it'll likely be cheaper than the BAF, and I like how it's bigger too.

Looking forward to seeing more. Would definitely get a kick out of seeing things like Thundercats done this way, or even Street Fighter, or some random DC things like Green Lantern Corps members(G'Nort and the squirrel! Kilowog too!) and some Red Lanterns(Bleez and the rage kitty!) ones or even others of the rainbow Corps. Capcom ones would be perfect for how well they'd blend in to Cyberbots, would also love to see Felicia, Talbain, Demitri and Jedah done this way. Maybe Morrigan and Lilith too. Would love to see some expanded megaman done this way like Zero series and ZX designs.

Definitely skipping Gundam Cap though. Granted it does seem perfect for Battle Fever J fans and G Gundam.

Hope it does well, and they keep the prices reasonable. I could see these really taking off if they aren't too overpriced.

Black Gaogai Panther. (Gaogaigar is about the closest thing I can see any resemblence to. And even that's really loosely and only because of colors and the head fringe.)

Cap looks more like a patlabor than a gundam here

Looks like one of the Gundam Sentinel types. The not Gundam itself side backup robos that helped it out. Not the Zakus. The ones that usually supported the Guntanks.

Patlabors only had one ear thing. But their designs were also derived from the Sentinel types of original Gundam.

The Patlabor v2 advanced version had the dual ear things, but they were larger and rounder and more like full curved bunny ears, and less like the flat side panel ones the normal Patlabors had like Alphonse.

The star on the torso though, and the side shield bits I see what you mean, but this one seems to suggest a kind of laser shield or panel open around shield, whereas Patlabors had the riot arm guard small shield on one arm.

Black Panther might be based on the Infini-T Force design of Tekkaman.

I take it you mean the GM suits...which I don't think resembles it at all. The leg designs on the cap kind of rip off the Zeta Gundam design.

Ohh I think you’re talking about the jegan. I only remember it being used in space so I’m not sure but cap definitely looks a lot like it

If this is really going to be around the $85 price point, I am game. Anything more than that would result in a pass from me.

How much do their figures typically go for?

Well Spider-Man would be PERFECT if they change the legs to be in proportion to his body, or vice versa but smaller then the other mechs.
