“DC UNIVERSE is so much more than a streaming service. It’s a welcoming place for everyone to immerse themselves in their own level of DC fandom, with the epic characters, stories, and experiences they have come to expect from DC,” said Jim Lee, chief creative officer and publisher, DC Entertainment.   “We are investing in and creating original, high-quality shows including the new Titans series, and curating the most beloved nostalgic content, while at the same time elevating the comic reading experience to new heights. Nothing this robust has ever been offered to fans before.”

WATCH

At the heart of DC UNIVERSE will be all-new exclusive original live-action and animated series based on DC’s iconic characters. Developed by Warner Bros. Television, Swamp Thing and Doom Patrol are scheduled to debut in 2019, following the dramatic, live-action adventure series Titans which premieres later this year. Warner Bros. Animation is also developing a slate of animated TV series based on existing fan favorites, including Harley Quinn and the highly anticipated third season of the popular Young Justice: Outsiders animated series which are both scheduled to debut in 2019.

  • Titans follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find belonging in a gritty take on the classic Teen Titans franchise. Dick Grayson and Rachel Roth, a special young girl possessed by a strange darkness, get embroiled in a conspiracy that could bring Hell on Earth. Joining them along the way are the hot-headed Starfire and loveable Beast Boy. Together they become a surrogate family and team of heroes.
  • Doom Patrol is a reimagining of one of DC’s strangest group of outcasts: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman and Crazy Jane. Led by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder they’re called into action by the ultimate hero for the digital age, Cyborg. Banding together these rejects find themselves on a mission that will take them to the weirdest and most unexpected corners of the DC universe.
  • Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
  • Young Justice: Outsiders features the return of the fan favorite animated series with a huge cast of DC’s most iconic young superheroes – plus brand-new characters, many of whom are just discovering their unique meta-powers and special abilities. Set against the backdrop of a rich, deep world that touches all corners of the DC universe, the season focuses on meta–trafficking, and an intergalactic arms race for control of these super–powered youths.
  • Harley Quinn follows Harley’s adventures after she breaks up with the Joker and strikes out on her own in this new adult animated comedy. With the help of Poison Ivy and a ragtag crew of DC castoffs, Harley tries to earn a seat at the biggest table in villainy: the Legion of the Doom.

An assortment of DC’s most beloved superhero films will also be available at launch for exclusive streaming windows, including all four original Superman movies as well as a selection of epic animated movies including Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Green Lantern: First Flight, and Wonder Woman. The service will also feature classic TV shows, including Batman: The Animated Series and the original Wonder Woman series available for the first time in HD.

    That's cool!
As incentives go, I hope they do this with a 4'' line later too using full articulation. Maybe keep alternating releases every 2 years or so to keep the buzz going of kids/collectors able to buy merchandise from the streaming material on the platform with a shop that offers it. So it becomes kind of a kids and collectors place for both media and merchandise from that media and exclusive media. That or do a 4'' version line for main stores and leave the 6'' premium versions for the shop on the member's only site. Depends on how big the site takes off of course, but as incentives go, that's really cool and a neat way to alter the market on what material membership gets you access to.

I hope they do Superman's space suit too from his series. Been looking at that design lately, and it's really kind of an awesome design overall that should get nodded more.

No, it isn't cool. You shouldn't have to subscribe to an unproven streaming service just to get figures you want unless they are going to seriously discount the figures to be like $10 a piece to make up for the cost of the streaming service.

That's how incentives work, though. And, you don't have to subscribe to get them. I'll buy extras and sell them to you for double.

That sounds to me like you do. And that is insane. Ignoring that it would be a middle finger to collectors, but it puts a MASSIVE limit on the number of casual buys the figures would get.

I guess I don't see a problem with this. They want people to subscribe to their new thing, so they are trying to entice people to do just that. Streaming services aren't that expensive. If this ends up being $50 a month, I'll eat crow, but I'm guessing it'll be between $15 and $20. A lot of you peoples spend that much a week in gas driving around trying to find that Hasbro stuff. So, when you find that 27th variant of Deadpool, do you take it up to the counter at Walmart and tell the cashier you want it for $10 to offset the cost of fuel?

Lastly, I highly doubt these won't be available anywhere else ever again. Especially if all of you "hardcore" DC fans, that absolutely have to have these figures, but aren't willing to pony up a few bucks a month for an all-inclusive DC Comics experience, don't subscribe.

Does anybody know anything of dc universe being offered in Europe or that these figures will be available on the European market?

    Thanks in advance.

Hmm. There may be potential here for a lot of figures to get made that otherwise wouldn't be made. Maybe. Also potential for them to respond to what fans want with greater frequency and accuracy. Or the whole thing could suck, who knows. That being said, I'd really rather they finish off the major Batman TAS characters before moving on to Justice League

I have mixed feelings about this. Glad they are finlly tackling the animated JL. But linking them to a sub service? I wonder how limited a quantity they will make these figures and if they will sell out fast regardless? If they give everyone a chance to preorder them so they make them to order, I’’d be ok with that. Also, I just bought the complete BTAS series set and watched all the DC Animated Movieverse movies, so unlimited access to them if not as enticing...

Also, I am not a fan of the face sculpt on supes- hoping they redo it. And GL’s upper body is way too top heavy. Either the chest width needs to be slightly smaller or the waist needs to be widened.

What's going to be hilarious is when people sign up for $25 per month and then find these are put up for order very slowly (to drag out subscriber fees) at something ridiculous like $35 plus $10 shipping.

"Hello? MattyCollector? Hi, it's DCC. We're trying to one-up what a fuckup you've been with DC figures. Yes, yes, endless delays and cancellations have given us quite the boost. Still, something's missing. Any suggestions? What's that you say? A subscription service..."

I don't really see a problem with this either. Major retailers weren't going to carry it anyway. Ebay will still get them. And these were destined for specialty shops anyway, which will likely still find ways to get them. Specialty shops do ungodly markups to begin with, so nothing changes there either.

As the service grows and this gets responded to positively, they'll probably find a way to get it into worldwide distro somehow. So that's a non-issue, and foreign distro is usually handled by other companies. If this causes a decent surge in subscribers as well as sells a decent amount, it could also make getting them more lucrative for non-domestic companies to license for their areas. Whereas right now they face the same issue as normal retail in not having a presence.

Plus this isn't Mattel either. DC Direct has very rarely ever been mainline stores and has always had a specialty shop approach. This centralizes that and makes it easier to handle besides also being an incentive to circumvent content piracy that's going to happen anyway.

So very cool and a great way to think outside the box. And if I don't end up subscribing, anything that's a figure I'd want I'll look on ebay for much later.

And this isn't stopping Mattel from doing that material at some point either, but it will force mattel to approach the material in ways that are guaranteed to sell since they will indirectly be competing with the service and its premium format releases. So this means Mattel can't half-ass their Multiverse releases anymore, and need to feed better into wider audience demands. Which really bodes well for future releases from them as they now have to make wider released content that can hold in the market and doesn't shelf-warm. Especially if they want to make the most of the DC license. Unless this starts to force them out of that market because the subscriber incentive sells better than Mattel does at retail.

Not really seeing any problems here whatsoever. And instead, am glad DC direct has found a wider home and way to offer this material to audiences that may not have had any avenues of release otherwise, as well as having a means to directly access the content that can help push sales forward stronger. Gotta admit this is a great strategy for lesser known figures that may not have moved otherwise. You can come right off of the amazing Martian Manhunter JL/JLU episodes and impulse buy the figure. It's rather genius tbh.
