In a new article at CNBC, it was revealed that Party City is planning on launching a new extension of their business. Starting in September, they will open up roughly 50 Toy City pop-up stores. The plan is for these to run from September through the holiday 2018 season, much like you would see seasonal Halloween stores pop up in empty retail locations. In conjunction with this, the plan is for Party City to begin offering a greater selection of toys online. Details on that were not made available at this time.
There’s no word on the type of toys that will be offered in the Toy City pop-up stores. For now, it’s best to expect these will cater far more towards families and toys for younger kids with a small assortment of collector oriented items. I imagine these will resemble the Toys R Us pop-up stores that have come and gone. I’m sure every action figure collector is hoping to be surprised. Hopefully they will reveal further details ahead of their September launch.
Party City To Open Seasonal Toy City Pop-Up Stores
The main perk to this for collectors is they will likely carry the popular brands too.
So Marvel, DC, Power Rangers, and Transformers will likely be heavily present alongside Barbie, My littlest petshop, MLP, and Monster High. Plus whatever Disney material is the most popular of the time, and other similar "toyline of the moment" popular stuff. Hopefully in more fresh cases style too of whatever is new at that release time.
That'd be my guess at least. Still not a permanent solution to the problem, but at least it's a good start/alternative that'll help on the more popular mainstays.
