Thundercats – Mumm-Ra Statue by Sideshow

Posted on February 14, 2018 at 7:56 am by Joe Moore under Thundercats Toy News

Around Christmas, Sideshow Collectibles announced they will be releasing new statues based on the iconic Thundercats brand. We now have our first full look at one of the upcoming releases. Sideshow has released images and info for their Thundercats – Mumm-Ra Statue. The statue will stand at 22″ tall, with a base modeled after the Black Pyramid. A standard and an eclusive version will be available. The exclusive edition includes an interchangeable hand holding the Sword of Plun-Darr. The Mumm-Ra statue will sell for $470. See the update below and the photos after the jump.

Sideshow is proud to present the first exciting collectible in the new Thundercats collection, the Mumm-Ra Statue.

Mumm-Ra stands 22” tall atop a Black Pyramid themed base, surrounded by effigies of the Ancient Spirits of Evil, who he is bound to serve. A purple pool of magic boils beneath his feet while the portraits of a crocodile, a boar, a vulture, and an ox imbue him with terrifying power.

Transformed into his Ever-Living state, the menacing Mumm-Ra has a portrait inspired by his animated appearance, with red eyes and jagged teeth. The Mumm-Ra Statue has a polystone blue body, sculpted with lifelike texture to capture his immense strength. He has sculpted armor elements, including his bandage wraps, golden gauntlets, and snake-themed belt and chains.

Mumm-Ra’s snake helmet has wired red and black tendrils of fabric on a tailored headdress. The statue also includes a fabric skirt and a red and black fabric cape, detailed with weathering to reflect the decay of the dangerous villain. The scalloped cape includes internal wiring for custom posing options.

The Exclusive edition of the Mumm-Ra Statue includes a swap-out right hand clutching the Sword of Plun-Darr, his malevolent double-bladed weapon. Holding the sword, the statue measures 24” tall, prepared to destroy the Thundercats with his terrible might.

Are you ready to conquer Thundera? Channel the ever-living source of evil into your collection with the Mumm-Ra Statue!

Pre-orders for the Mumm-Ra Statue will begin on Thursday, February 15th between 12pm-3pm PT.  The Exclusive edition will be priced at $485.00, and the Collector edition will be priced at $470.00.

"This is the first new Thundercats product since the loss of the Thundercats Classics toy line, which Mattel dropped when MattyCollector was closed down."

I'm not sure of the exact time frame from when the Matty stuff stopped but didn't the Loyal Subjects figures and some Funko Pops come out since then?

Yeah, worded poorly on my part. Edited that a bit.

It is an amazing statue. I'm currently struggling in my mind to figure out where to even put it.

The Mumm-Ra statue is amazing. The Lion-O, not so much. Those biker shorts are just...No. They've been on a roll with so many good 80's re-imaginings, they were bound to have one look off.

Yeah, this Lion-O falls short of the standard set by the Mumm-Ra statue. I have to admit I don't like anything about it actually...the stiff pose and the updated aesthetics. Also full leggings would've been less distracting than bicycle shorts.

It just occurred to me, with those shorts and that pose, it looks like he's doing his morning calisthenics routine lol.

I think the extra-detailed 'realistic' face spoils the appeal. The character was always cartoony; keep him cartoony -- hence recognizable.

Agree with all the above. That Mumm-Ra set the bar petty damned high, but that Lion-O is bordering on downright terrible.

the mumm-ra statue looks better than lion-o. the mum-ra pose is alittle weird thou

I'm not sure the sculptor(s) thought about what they're supposed to be doing while they struck that pose.

Mumm-Ra looks he's winding up for an invisible pitch. Lion-o looks like he's singing in an opera.

There's only ONE kind of person that should be wearing bike-shorts, and that's someone that's actually riding a bike. And ONLY WHEN that person is riding a bike. I used to have this dude at the office that'd wear his bike-short for 1/2 a day at the office whenever he biked in to work, because he wanted to make sure everyone at the office know that he biked into work that day. Sad part is, he's still fat! Put some pants on! No one care to see the contour of your fat butt!

I haven't seen much good said about that Lion-O anywhere. Is Sideshow the type of company that would acknowledge complaints and hold off on a piece in order to get it right?

Not something this far along, no. Few companies would make major changes at this point in production.
