MAFEX Robocop Revealed via Magazine Scan

Posted on November 22, 2017 at 7:21 am by Joe Moore under Robocop Toy News

New magazine scans making their rounds online reveal a new MAFEX Robocop figure coming from Medicom. The 6.3″ tall figure will include multiple interchangeable lower face parts, interchangeable masks, his Auto-9 pistol with a flash muzzle effects piece, interchangeable hands, interchangeable chest plats and swap out leg holster pieces. Unsurprisingly, there is no unmasked portrait. The Robocop figure is listed for release in September 2018. It will be priced at 8,424 Yen (about $75 USD).

We will update with official photos and details once they become available. You can see the scans by reading on.

I've heard that Peter Weller typically doesn't lend his likeness to action figures, but it looks like this one has it. Am I seeing things?

Not at all. With the lower jaw, you can get away with it without paying full likeness rights as you aren't doing a full face. The NECA one has it a bit, as does the Enterbay one (they have a few based on Weller and J.C. Burke).

Like Joe said...It's a pretty easy get around, since all you have to do is sculpt Weller's strong jawline, while the helmet covers the rest of his head.

At the moment, the only Robocop that uses the actual likeness of Weller is the Hot Toys versions, as they did a battle damaged version (where Robocop no longer has his visor) and an actual Alex Murphy figure. Outside of that, you're not gonna find too many figures or Robocop based EXACTLY on Peter Weller. You would have to go all the way back to the 80s with the Ultra Police figures by Kenner, which had an animated version of Weller's Robocop for the line.

SOO happy to see this. As an avid fan of the film, this is a MUST OWN for me...

Does anyone know if NECA plans an Ultimate Robocop, or at least a re-release of the first movie Robocop?

Because while this looks stellar I wouldn't mind paying a bit less for a NECA one.

I know when people on Twitter asked about ultimate Robocop about two years ago Randy said that without Weller's likeness they didn't see a point to giving an ultimate release since at that time the Robocop 3 jetpack figure and the Robocop 1 re-release were still fairly available. Having said that it has been some time so I think they should at least redistribute the first movie figure with the window box just so people have a chance to grab it again.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I decide if I want to buy the Mafex Robocop or not.

@Topic: He's listed on Medicom's website now, which means official pictures galore and that pre-orders are opening now.

Probably Robocop, he features qualities comparable to superheroes with his strength, endurance, and cybernetic enhancements. Dredd while ridiculously tough and mean is technically just a man. I don't recall any of Dredd's regular every-day-carry weapons being enough to take out Robocop.

Cyborg could probably take on Robocop. Regardless of his physical capabilities being able to match Robocop (depending on which version) Cyborg's ability to interface and hack other technology would probably make it not too difficult for him to just turn off Robocop's arms and legs and just leave him like that.

If Robocop has distance I think he could totally blow the General away. Grievous doesn't have the force so he can't use his lightsabers to deflect or stop any of Murphy's bullets and we don't how tough his armor really is or isn't but with Robocop's precision aiming all he needs is one good shot to Grievous' organ sack thing. If Grievous can close distance then his lightsabers give him the win, unless this is Robocop 3 Robocop who has a jetpack.

6.3 inches...not TOO much shorter than the NECA figure. I'd be curious to see how he scales next to other NECA figures but regardless, this looks REALLY nice. I might just have to buy one anyway.

The NECA Robocop is 7" tall (or close enough) and most of their human figures measure in at least 6 3/4" so this probably wouldn't scale very well with any NECA humans, you could probably force it to work with aliens and other monsters. This figure still looks nice though.
