Last week, we shared word that Hasbro was looking to potentially take over Mattel. It seems that Mattel has declined Hasbro‘s offer, and is apparently looking to drive a hard bargain if the two toy giants are to come together. Reuters, citing sources close to the situation, states that Hasbro’s proposal was significantly lower than Mattel values its business. Here’s a snippet:
Mattel has informed Hasbro its proposal undervalues the company and does not take sufficiently into account the potential for regulators to reject the deal based on antitrust concerns, the sources said.
The terms Hasbro has proposed could not be learned, and it is not clear whether negotiations between the two companies will continue. The companies have engaged in multiple rounds of deal talks over the last two decades.
So, don’t expect major movement any time soon.

Mattel Turns Down Hasbro's Offer of a Takeover - The Toyark - News
i wouldn't mind hasbro making "DC Legends" in 6 inch scale, at least hasbro is reliable on releasing figures and not cancelling some them... ok they did with legends but are rectifying it atm.
I'd be curious if DC / Marvel stayed with HasTel after the contract was up, I can see one jumping ship. Prob is, there really isn't anyone else for mass market stuff.
Bad idea. Would create a monoploy. Prices would increase even higher and im sure qc qould dip...again. To quote mr. horse from ren n stimpy........

they already completely neglect gi joe. what are they gonna do with he man?
Every year toys lose ground to video games.
Yeah, I don't think this is a good idea either. I see too many negatives
Crappy toys for everyone lol Seriously though? This sounds awful. Aside from Marvel Legends and the occassional Star Wars figures, I have little interest in these companies anymore. Other companies make way better DC and Marvel figures, but most of them are locked out because Mattel and Hasbro. Same with Jurassic Park and other licenses.
for some reason I would think the justice department would have something to say about this.
Everyone is on the same page, bad idea, bad for fans of toys and so on. You do not want 1 dominant company similar how Disney has everything and dictates when you can do reviews and embargo dates and so on.
This is bad news as people WILL lose jobs as the companies become so huge, they will cut costs by firing employees. Check Kenner toys to see Mattel s' future.
Similar to when DIsney bought Star Wars, they almost immediately started firing people such as from ESPN and a lot of guys who made middle waged income in an attempt to recoup the money spent on the takeover.
I think at this point, we are ALL jaded by companies being taken over and less competition. I hate government intervention as they almost always make things worse, but seeing Google throw its ideology around, mergers need to be regulated.
bad idea, monoploys are not good
I just want half decent 6 inch domestic DC figures, but not like this.
If meant some Joe styled DC figures I'd probably support this but since Hasbro has abandoned Joes (and basically the entire 4 inch scale) I'm gonna say no thank you.
It's right on the heels of Disney considering buying Fox too...
Give the DC license to the 4H. They cranked out the best versions of DC characters ever!
If WB is satisfied with Mattel's work, I don't think the DC license is going anywhere.
Yes just to potentially see DC worked into Legends line!
I think the difference here is quality vs variety.
Yes some companies may make better figures but they give less variety.
Yes some companies may make better figures but they give less variety.
Oh, look the two biggest toy companies who "swallowed" so many great smaller toy companies are gonna have an incest marriage.
And I thought we got rid of this threat last year....ohwell, crappy expensive toys for everyone, yay!
I don't buy anything from either company, so from an outsider view, I'd say this seems like a terrible idea. But, if that makes DC rethink the master license game and give it to NECA, then I'm all about it.
Lots of harping about monopolies, but Hasbro and Mattel are from the only game in town or in the toy isle.
All the fear about poorer quality and price gouging, honestly I think we already have that problem anyway.
