Back in late 2016 McFarlane Toys dropped the first new Spawn figure in years. It was a 7 inch Color Tops version of Spawn in his classic get up titled Spawn Rebirth. It had limited articulation but a fantastic sculpt and paint. Fast forward almost a year and their next entry into the new Spawn figureverse is here, Commando Spawn. Color Tops may be done as a name, but the 7 inch scale figures with minimal to average articulation are still going strong. Commando Spawn does indeed have more articulation than the previous one, but it is still a static pose base sculpt with articulation added in after the fact. Accepting that for what it is, it is another excellent piece. Sculpt is again top notch, paint is again superb – on both versions. Along with the base Commando Spawn, there is a variant Scorched Earth version which has a weathered bronze statue vibe. We have both of these in hand, read on to check out over 85 HD pictures of them in action after the break!
McFarlane Toys Commando Spawn and Scorched Earth Commando Spawn 7 Inch Figures (2017)
Overall Thoughts
Another well done figure for what it is. The articulation angle is immediately going to get brought up, and, I know. I agree. Would prefer a full on S.H. Figuarts level articulation figure, in 7 inch scale, with this level of sculpt and paint. That isn’t happening, not right now anyway. So I’m taking these Spawn figures for what they are, really well done poseable statues. And, in limited quantity, I am ok with that. I really dig Spawn from back in the day, and having new versions of him tucked in on the shelves has been fun. Photographing them has been super fun as you can see below. This round did have more articulation than the last for sure. We get knees and elbows with click joints and swivels. Shoulders, waist and and hips get swivel cuts only. Head gets a left/right rotation with slight tilt. Wrists have a swivel and slight click joint. Can get some different poses if you really focus. In the end though he’s sculpted for the main pose seen on the box, everything else is an afterthought.
I dig these for what they are, happy to have them in the collection, all while hoping they go full articulation style later on. If you are into Spawn and want to rep him on your shelves or desks, it’s worth a pick up! Commando Spawn is shipping now and should be in stores soon. The Bronze version is a chase variant. Both will retail for $19.99.

Same deal - limited articulation but great sculpt and paint. More articulation than the last one.

For Spawn, once or twice a year, I am ok with this, glad to have em. As a method for action figures in general, as a primary line for xyz property, would need more.
He is purdy tho...
I don't like how they made his suit look like some kind of tactical deal, it's supposed to just conform to his musculature.
I kinda like it, with it not being just another spawn in a different position we do get some texture to his suit. Although he is another spawn with another gun, kinda like the previous release. how about a cool action pose with chains or blast affects??
These both look fantastic. Definite buy.
Too bad they can't just make regular figures again because that was one of my favorite Spawns from back in the day.
Nice job on those pics with the scenery and lighting. They made the figure look better than it actually is.
Wow, I just looked at the packaging images. Holy shit that's fantastic, that's like NECA Kenner homage level great. They even used the old McFarlane Toys logo.
