The latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles release from NECA is a 1/4 scale Michelangelo figure. This 16.5″ tall figure is based on Mikey from the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action film. The figure is the third release in the line up, as he joins, Leonardo, Donatello and Raphael. Next month, NECA will release their Raphael in Trenchcoat. At San Diego Comic-Con 2017, NECA revealed a further series of releases for the 1/4 scale line up, including Shredder, Foot soldiers and an accessory pack featuring the baby Turtles! The Michelangelo figure includes an assortment of interchangeable hands, two nunchucks, a bag of pork rinds and a slice of pizza.

Overall
Like the other figures in the line, Michelangelo comes packaged in a large window box. The packaging is based on the iconic original poster for the Ninja Turtles 1990 film. It has retro style touches thoughout, such as the NECA logo in the style of the old F.H.E. logo. Mikey is held onto a cardboard backer with a few twist ties. His accessories sit in a plastic tray, which is glued onto the backer. The figure includes multiple interchangeable hands, two nunchucks, a bag of pork rinds, and a slice of pizza.
As this is my third figure in NECA’s TMNT 1/4 scale line, I’m not sure what more I can say. Like Donny and Leo before, this Mikey figure is a fantastic representation of his look in the 1990 movie. The sculpt is spot on, with strong detail work throughout the entire figure. The skin features full textured detailing, while things like the bandana and the carapace are much smoother, offering a nice contrast in the look. Articulation is the same as the previous figures in the series. Joints have a nice, solid range of motion and they are strong, tight joints that help keep the figure sturdy. At this point, it’s no surprise that the paint work is handled equally as well. While Mikey has a nice shade of green as his main base, NECA took care in adding the numerous splotches and spots seen in the original costumes. IT all comes together for top notch Michelangelo figure, and the best looking version of the 1990 movie Mikey to date.
Michelangelo includes a number of accessories, much like his previously released brothers. The two nunchcks can be held in his hand, or stored in his belt. The stick pieces are held together with a strong string that appears to be wrapped into the construction of the weapons, which should result in far fewer breakages compared to simply gluing them in. There are a number of different hands, which range from thumbs up, to pizza holding to hands perfect for the pork rinds bag. the pork rinds bag itself is one of my favorite additions here. They even stuffed it with, what feels like, a piece of foam to give it some fullness. They even printed nutritional info on the back of the bag.
In the end, this is absolutely worth picking up. Room definitely becomes an issue with 1/4 scale figures. but these TMNT releases are worth clearing some space for. With Shredder and the Foot Soldier coming next year, this line is becoming the definitive take on the 90’s film.Check out some highlight photos below and the full gallery after that.
