Friday The 13th Part 4: The Final Chapter – Ultimate Jason Voorhees – Toyark Photo Shoot

Posted on June 19, 2017 at 9:51 am by Joe Moore under Horror Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

After suffering near fatal wounds in Friday The 13th Part 3, the nearly unstoppable killer, Jason Voorhees, returns in Friday The 13th Part 4: The Final Chapter. Making his way back to Camp Crystal Lake to continue his reign of terror, he tears through the current inhabitants of Camp Blood, until he meets his match in a young boy named Tommy Jarvis. The young Tommy is a special effects wizard who understands the mindset of a freak and an outcast. In the fourth film in the storied franchise, Jason Voorhees is finally killed, only to be returned to life by the same person who originally defeated him (in Part 6). For their third Jason Voorhees Ultimate release, NECA brings together head sculpts and accessories from multiple classic releases and updates the paint scheme and masks. Armed with everything from a machete to a corkscrew and featuring multiple masks and head sculpts, this release is one fans will want to check out.

Toyark sponsor Dorkside Toys sent along the figure for us to check out. We have over 50 photos and a full review. Read on to check them out.

Friday The 13th Part 4: The Final Chapter – Ultimate Jason Voorhees 7″ Scale Figure

Pros

  • Great mix of weapons
  • Pamela Voorhees tombstone was a nice addition
  • Excellent paint work
  • Includes regular and machete impaled head sculpts
  • Two different masks included
  • Excellent looking overall figure

Cons

  • Loose hips
  • Right hand peg seems too thin

Overall
Packaged in a flapped window box that uses the iconic poster, this fits in perfectly with your existing Ultimate releases. The back of the box includes photos of the figure with some of the accessories. the interior of the box showcases a large photo of Jason Voorhees and the window letting fans check out the figure. Jason sits in a plastic tray with one twist tie holding the figure in. A cardboard backdrop is included. The final Chapter Jason Voorhees includes two hockey masks, two head sculpts, an extra right hand, a bloody machete, a bloody corkscrew, an axe, a bloody hacksaw, a bloody cleaver, a bloody knife, and a Pamela Voorhees tombstone.

I have been a big fan of the Ultimate Jason Voorhees figures so far. The Part 6 Ultimate was pretty fantastic, with great sculpting and some fun accessories. While the part 3 had a few paint issues, I definitely enjoyed handling and shooting the figure. I think this version, however, may be the best of the trio. The Final Chapter Jason Voorhees brings together two figures from their Friday the 13th Series 2 releases from 2013. The sculpt is largely the same, with no major changes that I could notice from photos of the older releases. The original sculpt, thankfully, still holds up quite well. Jason has about 25 points of articulation and great overall look. The paint work looks to have been updated and is a huge improvement over the Part 3 Ultimate. Blood stains look more natural, and his overall look is much less “clean”. The head sculpts feature great detail work, with sharp paints for the eyes and a nice gruesome looking series of paint washes. Paint color looks constant across the head sculpts and neck. Even his dirty fingernails are individually painted on the hands. From top to bottom, the figure looks great in hand.

Fans get two head sculpts, with one including the ability to impale the machete into his face. The two masks included have slightly different designs. I believe one is meant to represent the version seen in the movie, while the other is the version seen on the poster.  Thanks to forum member evilekim for explaining the two masks. One is how the masks starts off in the film, while the other is how the mask looks near the end, with paint having been washed away by the rain. Jason includes a small arsenal of weapons, with most of them being blood covered. Jason also includes an additional right hand so that he can better wield those weapons. The peg for the right hand seemed a tad thin, so the hands didn’t sit on that too well and would fall off when moved too much. The hips were also fairly loose on this figure. Hopefully those are isolated instances and not too wide spread.

Those two issues aside, this is a fantastic overall release. Jason looks every bit as menacing as he should. The sheer number of accessories and the two heads and masks really make this a worthwhile pick up for fans of the franchise. Check out some select photos below and the full gallery after that.

Great pics! This has always been one of my favorite Jason figures. I have both originals and they are near perfection. I see some things I like better than the first releases, and others not so much. The finger nails and wrists in particular are way better this time!
NECA including 2 masks isn't to try and match the mask on the cover. Reason is, in the final chapter movie there was a lot of rain. The markings on the hockey mask start to disappear as a result. By the end of the movie, the marks are about gone.
My only real gripe is that NECA didn't include a battle damaged hand. Since NECA included the cork screw, they needed to make a hand that could hold it. Also, when I first saw the machete, I though it was too bloody. However, seeing it stuck in his head makes it clear why it was done that way. It's a nice touch as we have so many cleaner machetes already.
Overall, if anyone missed the first release, this is a must buy.

Thanks for the clarification on the masks. I hadn't watched part 4 in at least a decade, probably longer.

My pleasure. Part 3 and 4 are my favorites. Pretty sure that extra hand is specifically for the cork screw too, but I guess it fits other weapons ok?

I think it's mainly meant for the hacksaw. As the other hand is too tightly closed to force it through the opening. The looser hand can't hold the axe, knife, cleaver or the machete.

I picked up two of these. Neither had loose hips, but on both the right hand falls off pretty regularly. I did like that the fingers on the hand were pliable enough that I could have him hold any weapon without switching to the extra hand.

Mine definitely doesn't have loose hips and the wrists on mine are solid too. I will echo the idea that an alternate machete wound split left hand would have been a nice new piece to make this even more ultimate. Still I'm very happy that NECA decided to make this their next ultimate Jason over some of the other options.

Mine didn't have loose hips either.

He's a huge improvement over ultimate part 3. The quality feels higher, and the paint is superior. Love the accessories, I agree that we should have got the damaged hand as an extra.

Good to hear that the loose hips aren't a wider issue. The damaged hand would have been pretty cool.

The hips and wrists on mine are 100% fine, also. Nice and tight.

As for a battle-damaged hand, he DOES come with a hand with outstretched, spread fingers...a little work with a blade and some paint and you could make your own.

THAT'S the reason the hockey mask chevrons change at the end of the movie? They...got wet? I mean, the cheek chevrons just sort-of...disappear right at the end without any explanation. I've always assumed it was just some production error, like they used the wrong mask or something. After all, it's not you see the paint running off the mask or anything after Jay comes in from the rain.

Is this, like, something official you got from a DVD commentary or interview?

Not official, but I've talked about it before on forums and at shows. Next time you watch it, you'll notice that the mask itself starts to change when the rain really starts coming down. The marks faded away more and more after that point. You can see how the mask gets progressively worse. I guess special FX (Tom Savini) tried to show the wear tear that the mask would take after being exposed to the elements. Jason even breaks through a shower at one point for a Psycho inspired kill. In that scene you can see the mask looks much different. By the end of the movie, the mask almost like the movie poster, but there is still half of the chevron on the forehead remaining.

Here's a picture of Jason from the shower scene kill I mentioned. They only show him for a second or 2, but you can see the mask has changed. The chevron on the forehead, and part of the right one are faded. He also has a big mark on the nose.

If memory serves me correctly, the reason the chevrons are gone from the mask was an unintentional flaw in that mask through general wear and tear over the years. The mask that was used in part 4 was in fact the original "hero", or stunt mask that was used in part 3, and it was the only mask used throughout the entire duration of filming for part four due to the film's low budget. The chevrons on the mask were not painted on, but were actually applied vinyl stickers, which had long dried up and cracked, and began to flake off during the movie's filming. The weather machine especially helped speed this process up.

The director tried having new labels reapplied to the mask at several points, but due to the residue left on the mask from the previous vinyls, as well as the constantly falling water from many of the scenes, they just would not stay on. Since again, this was the same mask that was being used from Part 3, this explains the weathered triangle "tan lines" where the chevrons should be.

I say that this was an unintentional flaw, as like many Hollywood movies filmed under secrecy it was filmed out of sequence. (Paramount kept the film very close to it's vest as to not allow spoilers to leak.) In many scenes, you will see the chevrons not there, only to be there in the next shot and then gone again a moment later. The most notable scene where this occurs is when Jason chases Tommy's sister Trish into the party house from the Jarvis cabin (after she hits him with the TV.) The scene starts with one chevron, then all three are suddenly present, before it goes back to one.

I knew it was only a matter of time before you popped up in here. But yeah, that explanation sounds much more plausible to me...I assumed it was some sort of production error, considering how all over the place the chevron placement was.

Definitely a cool story. I never new if it was intentional or not. The rain is still what changed the mask though, just like I said. How could it not? Maintaining these costumes, especially in the 80s, must have been extremely hard. I'm glad it happened though. Sometimes unintentional really works. Just like Jaws, it's a little thing called movie magic😉

^^You were right on point about the water damaging the mask. The discoloration that can also be seen on that mask (such as the nose) was also by accident, as the special effects team tried to cover up scuffs and marks from the previous film with white paint that didn't quite match up. While it didn't do a good job covering up those scuffs, the off colored paint did give the mask a really unique, to hell and back, beat up look.

Fun fact about the mask from Part 4, it received a rather large crack on the eye just below the axe wound from the scene in which Trish hits Jason in the face with the hammer as he is trying to grab Tommy. While it's never been confirmed, it's possible that the mask broke during the scene and was re-glued back together, as the crack is very noticeable during the outtakes/deleted scenes in which Jason's mask is knocked from his face to the floor in the final battle.

Because of the immense damage this one and only mask took during the filming, it ended up being recasted from the original mold for Jason's brief hallucination scenes in part 5. Because it was a cast though of the original mask, it was missing the cheek buttons/snaps. The recast of that mask was also imperfect, but it laid the foundation for what would become Jason's iconic part 6 mask, as it featured the full triangle chevron in the center, no cheek chevrons, no cheek buttons, and a flatter and more broad surface. The straps were also riveted from the inside, not the outside, with screws instead of buttons, giving the mask a different, more armored, look.

The original stunt mask from parts 3, and 4, (which was recast for part 5) somehow ended up in the personal collection of Dick Warlock, a stuntman most famous for playing Michael Myers in Halloween 2, who was also a stunt co-coordinator in part 5. The mask was later sold by Warlock to a fan, where the fan has locked it away in a vault ever since. Thankfully, the mold for it still exists, and was picked up and recasted by a number of different professional hockey mask makers for fans to purchase and create their own takes on it.

So cool! Yeah I read up on this a little bit. Dick Warlock is the man! I like his Halloween appearances a little better though.
The mold you are referring to is offered on Frightstuff.com I believe. I actually have one of those masks, which are signed on the inside. My brother custom painted it for me in the part 3 look and gave me one for my birthday years ago. Such a cool mask, and very light weight.
Thanks for the great info dude!

If you want a really great hockey mask kit check out this site...
    jdfstudios.com
They make kits from every movie, cast from a mask that was used in production. All of the straps are accurate and they have chevron decals etc... Really awesome stuff. I bought a painted one and it is by far the best mask I have. They are not breakable like the NECA masks and not one of those cheap Halloween masks.

Frightstuff was one of the first to get the original molds...but many others have since picked it up. Some other good mask companies that I have purchased from include DevilsLatex and FiberglassMasks.

The best guy out there right now I feel is over at Escape Theory Studios. He produces his stuff locally here in Tucson, and his work is incredible. He is also one of the few guys out there who produces props and hoods as well as masks, many of which are also casted from the original screen props.

This is the same figure that was release in 2012 in the blister pack, in a normal and battle damaged version. I do like the additional accessorises and detail, but once again in typical neca fashion, its just the same figure thats already been released. There has been all of these retro style figures and ultimate figures, not to mention the countless alien and predator repaints and re releases. Don't get me wrong i own alot of neca toys, but they just seem to be milking out there licenses, ive seen on some other threads people asking for another Hodder jason like the one from cult classics, or alien resurrection figures and maybe even an ultimate pinhead. But neca just seem intent on re releasing the same figures with more accessories and a shiny new box, its pure laziness and a bit of a cash grab in my opinion.

Not to mention Randy Falk who runs necas social media, he has a long history of insulting fans, and saying things like "if you don t like don t buy" and "The toy breaking isn't our problem because we are not the retailer", I mean REALLY? this is how you talk to a customer? very unprofessional, they guy should have been sacked ages ago, completely unable to take any criticism.

Randy has said multiple times (as recently as today) that Part 7 Jason is likely to come at some point, but no new Jason figures are due until next year. Alien Resurrection is already being worked on for next year as well. They don't have the license for Hellraiser (currently with Mezco), so they can't do Pinhead.

Randy only runs the Twitter account. The Facebook and Instagram pages are run by someone else. And they have an entire separate twitter account for customer service to deal with breakage issues, and have been actively replacing parts for new figures and even older ones if they have the parts available.
