The DC Bombshells theme has been running in the DC Universe since 2011, when Ant Lucia did a set of prints featuring DC Heroines and Villains in a World War II look and feel. Lots of merch and even a digital first comic has come out since then, expanding beyond the original 4 of Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Batwoman and Poison Ivy. Fast forward and we now have these Bombshells in action figure form! The latest Desginer Series offering, DC Bombshells features those first 4 in 7 Inch scale with a wide range of articulation and accessories. And, the line is set to continue beyond these with Batgirl, Katana, Hawkgirl and Mera later this year! Let’s take a closer look after the break courtesy of Entertainment Earth!
Ever since the Capullo range ended (or timed out) I’ve been itching for that 7 inch scale figure from DC Collectibles. The stance and detail that comes with these larger Designer Series figures is what I’m looking for. Not every Desginer Sereis style has worked for me, but these do. The Bombshells thread in the comics and merchandise has been going on for a while – it’s an alt verse featuring the women of DC designed by Ant Lucia in WWII era designs.
As for the figures, they are sculpted and painted excellently. They capture the look of the original art by Lucia. The Designer Series overall has above average articulation, but doesn’t attack every joint perfectly. Here, the one downfall was their legs. It is a huge hassle to get them to stand. Weak joints at the knees and tiny feet, some on heels, with no proper rocker ankle = frustration. Wonder Woman and Harley were the better of the bunch there, but still finicky.
Bottom line, if you dig the look and style of these, they are worth a pick up, but be prepared to prop them if you have a bouncy floor.
