DC Icons Burnside Batgirl with Bike Photo Review

Posted on January 11, 2017 at 12:32 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

We continue our DC Icons Galleries today with the Batgirl and Bike deluxe pack! This is the first vehicle offering into the Icons line with Batgirl’s bike and stand. The set comes from the Batgirl of Burnside run in the comics which was praised for the new direction by some but was a tad offputting to long-time Barbra Gordan fans. Batgirl’s suit is the star here, not sexualized yet still feminine, it’s a great new take on a modern female super-hero. In figure form the bike and it’s stand is stellar. Let’s take a closer look after the break courtesy of Big Bad Toy Store!

DC Icons Burnside Batgirl and Bike Deluxe Set

Another winner! Execution was perfect here. Sculpt head to toe is great. Paint is well applied with a matte finish all around. The head and cape swaps for bike mode work well. The bike is phenominal, functioning as a bike with moving wheels off the base, or plug it into the stand for zooming effect action. You can even tilt the bike while on the stand and it holds itself in place. Bottom line, just a great entry into the line. We need more of this in Icons to come!

    Great set of pics TB...
Even though I've given up on that line...
If i can find this down the road at some point cheaper...I'd def get it.
Hope the inverse doesn't happen and the price just goes up.
The pic of her "walking" on his arm is cool..
and haha..at the pic of her curving her body backwards like she's in the middle of a dance move in a music video...

I have read a lot of reviews that involve poor quality. Many report fragile shoulder pads and joints. Did you have any experience with this on the figure?

The bigger story here: Grail has a thigh swivel!

Sure DC, don't give it to any of the figures that are widely recognized for mobility, but sure... Grail; why not??

Yes, I had issues with the shoulder pads. They were glued on in place to begin with, and that glue sucked. Any movement pressure not in the exact flow range caused them to pop off. No breaking of plastic, just the glue bond breaking. I re-glued them both, twice, with crazy glue. After the second time, they stayed in place and moved around as intended.

Other than that, no issues, and quality on both figs was normal Icons fare.

Yes, don't understand why. Hopefully it's the beginning of a new direction for them and they work it into more. The legs/hips of all these guys limit posing. I don't care about visual lines, these are meant for posing.

Such a shame that I was really looking forward to buying this set until after I saw the reviews. The sculpt looks great, but I can no longer justify the price tag on it. I'll wait to see if he gets marked down to $40 a some point.

With the thigh swivel, I think the line continues to be a work in progress. First they up-scaled it a hair, now its thigh swivel, and I hope that some improved head articulation is in the pipeline. Its shaping up to be a really solid line.

Now, do I get this Darkseid as my display Darkseid or do I continue to hold out for Mezco's eventual offering.

I hope they up the size of Rebirth Batman in that 7 pack, although, he looks to be pretty much a repaint outside of a few certain parts.

Depends on how tall you want Darkseid to be. You want him to be ~7-9 ft tall (within the scale, of course), or do you want him to be 12+ ft tall?

Yeah, another above average offering from icons. Sculpt of head/face, and paint on it, top notch. The matte paint all over the figure, and slightly sheen paint on bike are both perfect.

Yep, the set looks to be very well done, just I REALLY don't like this de-aged iteration of Batgirl.

Also, DCC needs to do a new Icons Batman cos' this one is way to short!! Come on DCC, it should be a priority for 2017!!

I love, love, love the Batgirl of Burnside design and I love, love, love this figure. It's perfect. I bought it day one, and while I don't really have room to display her bike at the moment, at least I found a place for Barb herself in my collection.

Hey, I'm for anything that makes me forget what happened in The Killing Joke, which is a shitty and overrated comic in my opinion (don't get mad if you're a fan, I can respect that). I really enjoyed Babs Tarr's run on the book, and am seriously bummed that she's moved on to creator-owned book that probably no one will give two shits about.

Killing Joke is one of my favorite comic-book story ever, but I also can respect the fact that you do like it. But in the other hand, I think the "shitty" part of your comment is not appropriate for an highly influencial, award-winning, 25+ straight years in print book.

I think that if DC really wanted a teenage Batgirl, all they had to do was to bring Stephanie Brown back, she was pretty popular (maybe still is) & keep Barbara in her mid-20, as Oracle & Dick's GF.

  22. Skoob's Avatar Skoob says

I side with Startaiger re: Killing Joke. Like DKR, it's kind of a landmark, unique for its time.

Stephanie is the only 'purple' Bat-character for me.

That said, I love this figure, and the photos do it justice. Thanks, Tony.

Ok, perhaps "shitty" was going a wee bit too far. I certainly can understand why the book has so many fans, despite my personally negative feelings about it.

    Two things:

    1. Barbara is still clearly in her mid-20's...if they had de-aged her to being a teen she'd still be living at home and going to high school instead of living in hipsterville Burnside with roomies. I'm personlly happy that they undid the Killing Joke stuff and got her back in the (new and much improved) costume.
    2. Debating a comic character's age? Age is probably the most fluid thing in comics, aside from characters never staying dead when they get killed. It almost doesn't matter anymore. Realistically, Barbara and everyone else should probably be dead by now.

I cannot wait for my Darkseid and Batgirl to ship, both amazing sets in my opinion, especially Batgirl. I hope DC Icons continues to increase the number of female characters it releases because they are doing phenomenally well with them.
I'm not sure why people are being so negative about Darkseid, I've watched a lot of reviews of the figure and they have all been very positive even with the articulation limits.
