NECA has quietly revealed, in a tweet, that they will be making toys based on the upcoming film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. The movie, the latest sci-fi epic from Luc Besson (director of The Fifth Element), features some wildly imaginative character and location designs, all ripe for some quality action figures. Check out the trailer and synopsis below.
In the 28th century, special operatives Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) maintain order throughout the universe for the government of the human territories. Under orders from their commander (Clive Owen), the duo embark on a mission to Alpha, an intergalactic city where diverse species share their technology and resources for the betterment of all. The ever-expanding metropolis is also home to sinister forces that jeopardize the future of mankind.

If they just make the aliens in the trailer, they have like 10 waves.
Cool!
Now if they could just get the license to Mad Max: Fury Road. I would sh!t my pants.

Mad Max and John Wick are two series that I wish NECA would pick up. I never thought about Valerian and Laureline. This could be a massive and amazing wave. Drenched in Euro-scifi awesomeness. Lord I don't need another NECA line that I want to collect in its entirety. I can't wait.
Movie trailer: yuck.
Yeah, a good 1:12 figure of Mel Gibson as Mad Max would be a grail.
I am looking forward to the new Howard the Duck Movie
They will most likely make only the lead characters and maybe an alien and/or droid that figure big in the film.
Not sure how excited I am about the movie, but the comic is one of my all time favourites. So, in that regard, I'll gladly buy anything NECA puts out. Plus, it's a good thing that the source material that Lucas so obviously ripped off for Star Wars is finally getting some mainstream attention.

The similarities are notable but it's not like Valerian invented most of these things, a lot of classic sci-fi tropes were established in ye ol' Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon stories. There are a ton of sci-fis from before the '70s that clearly set the tone for what would become the sort of standard used by Star Wars and Star Trek before it.

Same could be said for many other characters: Batman (Zorro, The Shadow), Robocop (Japanese Metal Heroes, Marvel's Deathlock), ...

anyway, yeah, thats it...doesnt seem as shocking as when i first saw it. the frozen guy still stands out but like was already mentioned the rest seemed pulled from sci fi/fantasy tropes...
i cannot wait for this movie.
