Overall
The Surgeon Freddy Krueger comes packaged in the standard resealable plastic clamshell used for most of the Mego style releases. The card art features artwork by the stellar Nathan Thomas Milliner. Freddy is held onto the tray with some rubber bands and a twist tie. For those that want to keep their packaging, you can use a razor blade and simply cut the small sealed notches. Place the razor between the two halves of the lid and slid the blade slowly around cutting those small connectors.
Fans of NECA’s clothed retro figures will know exactly what to expect here. It uses their current body style, which has 25+ points of articulation. This releases includes two specific looks from A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. The figure is packed wearing his surgeons outfit. You can add the hat and face mask to complete the loot. The hat simply rests atop the head, while the face mask uses elastic bands that wrap around the ears. The gown, mask and hat are all cloth. They used a very small thread on these to keep them from looking too bulky. The gown is removable, and features a velcro back. For this look, Freddy also includes a bloody bone saw.The bone saw is a harder plastic, with no warping issues. It fits into his clenched hand without any trouble.
For those that prefer a more traditional Freddy Krueger look, the figure includes the iconic red and green stripped sweater as well, which you can swap out with ease. The new sweater uses a wool-like yarn, but has a surprisingly tight nit to it, keep the sweater very fitted on the figure. It seems each new Freddy has had a sweater that increasingly fit more appropriately and this one continues that trend. Freddy includes a pair of sunglasses to go with the sweater look. Not included here is a fedora for Freddy. I understand it’s not the main look they are going for. But a Freddy figure feels incomplete without his full outfit. The hats from the other releases will fit with the figure.
I had a good time shooting this figure. When switching out the outfits, I noticed that Freddy has a pretty ripped physique. So I’ve included some fun “Sexy Freddy” shots. Check out a few highlight photos below with the full gallery after that.
