Chronicle Collectibles has announced that they have acquired a license John Carpenter’s The Thing. Their first official product based on the iconic horror film will be included in this months Loot Crate DX box. The collectibles will be based on a sculpture by special effects artist Daniel J. Wagner. While the specific collectible is not named, Mr. Wagner is known for a stellar bust based on the twisted faces creature from the Norwegian camp (I’ve attached a photo of that sculpture). Here’s what Chronicle announced:

This piece was inspired by a sculpture from Danny Wagner. We are huge Rob Bottin fans and there is a shout out to Rob on the box.

Thanks to Universal and Jeffery Lang. Sculpture by Dean Tolliver, Killer box by Bob Lindenmayer and art directed by Paul Francis.
Prototype Paint by Alex Alva and produced by Toynami.
This piece is a killer collaborative undertaking. Thanks Loot Crate for making this happen, we are very happy with the final product.
We’ll continue to cover the new items and even ordered this months Loot Crate DX box to check out the collectible for ourselves!
Chronicle Collectibles Announced License For John Carpenter's The Thing
The only problem with doing a figure like this is what version from what scene do you make a toy out of? Do you do Nauls with the head and spider legs? Do you do Palmer from the couch scene? Norris from the operating table? Bennings mid-trasformation? The Thing at the end when MacCready has to blow up the base?
When Drew Struzan got the call for this poster the deadline was so tight that when it arrived there was parts of the poster that were still wet! I loved the movie and there are plenty of ideas for figures, but Id like to see them expand on the prequel sequel whatever thing...pun intended. I watched a featurette on the film its sad that they replaced all the creepy awesome pratical effect with digital creatures.
