Kidrobot Teases Their New Madballs

Posted on September 21, 2016 at 8:00 am by Joe Moore under General Toy News

The Madballs license is making a huge comeback. There are multiple lines coming for fans new and old. We already have the newly designed collector edition Madballs coming from Mondo. American Greetings (the owner of the property) is teaming up with Just Play to bring a new assortment aimed at kids, which will apparently be sold in stores. Now, Kidrobot shared a new photo, showing off their own assortment of oversized Madballs! You can spot the following in the photo:

  • Dust Brain
  • Slobulous
  • Horn Head
  • Oculus Orbus
  • Screamin Meemie

I don’t have any additional details at the moment. We’ll update as news becomes available. Click the banner image to check out the photo.

A toy line from the 80's. They were softball (and one football) sized heads with grotesque cartoon faces. The license has been making a comeback over the last couple of years.

There was also a soccer ball, which I Begged for and got for my birthday.

$50 seems pretty high and kind of exploitive of people's nostalgia for these things. Not sure how that price is justified when something like stretch Armstrong is back and selling for $20.

There are also the Mondo versions, which are $20 each. There will be other Kidrobot ones at different sizes and prices too. Then American Greetings will have their own version with more cartoon-ish, kid oriented designs.

Personally I like the keychains even though they're missing one Madball and the three Super Madballs.

Blind packs though, so no thanks.

I'm not sure how there would be. The Mondo ones aren't out yet, and these were released online just today. Mondo's are way late (no surprise there). You can check out their individual pics. The Mondo ones are smaller than these.

How much??? I'm no stranger to designer toys and their oft inflated prices, but $50 is absurd, especially when my anemic Aussie dollar and international shipping charges are considered. Too bad, because these look nice and would fit perfectly into the '80s/'90s toy section of my collection.

So apparently the keychains aren't where it stops, Entertainment Earth has preorders for mini figures with stands that use the keychain molds.

I'm gonna probably just get those mini individual Madballs on Ebay a little at a time. I can't see buying a box of 24 when there's only 15 characters with a bonus glow in the dark one. I'd never be able to get rid of the extras, and if the ratio for these is the same as the keychains, then buying a whole box doesn't guarantee getting the whole set since one or two characters are 1/48 ratio.

I still can't understand why one of the Madballs is missing though. The Super Madballs I can understand, but why Splitting Headache?

    *shrug*

Hopefully they get to those after these initial releases. Those were always much better IMO. There are the upscaled, slightly upgraded Sofubi's that came out last year with bodies. They're pretty dope as they come not only the bodies, but separate feet to make some weird 'head, with feet sticking out' gimmick, and have a random piggy bank slot function. A bit pricey though.
