Star Wars Black Series SDCC Kylo Ren Gallery

Posted on August 5, 2016 at 11:08 am by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Star Wars Toy News

SDCC 2016 was good for Star Wars Black Series collectors. We got an OT Ben Kenobi, a first look Jyn Erso from Rogue One, and a beefed up Kylo Ren set. Kylo comes with an unmasked head, a first order banner, a full ligtsaber and hilt-only version like the K-Mart set, and a melted Darth Vader helmet. Basically a total Black Series Kylo Ren package. Let’s take a look after the break!

Star Wars Black Series Kylo Ren SDCC Exclusive

Overall
Dig it. New head is solid for Black Series standards. Paint on the helmet is also sharp, not sloppy like some early mass release runs. The First Order banner is an awesome dio piece that would be great to have on it’s own at some point, just one doesn’t do it justice. Using it as a base or background fodder is a perfect way to fill out a shelf. The Vader helmet is what it is, well done and a perfect bonus add-on. As for the figure, it’s basically the same as the one that’s been out, but the molded plastic cape-drape is new. It now features a raised textured pattern where the original was a bit smoother. Overall this is a nice upgrade to the original figure and the definitive Kylo to date for Black Series.

It lights up and plays sound?! Neat! I didn't understand the fuss until now.

Your video is great, and if you have time and if such vids generate enough hits / views, then I guess they're justified, but my interest is the photos themselves, for which I thank you!

Yeah, pics first here. This is basically just a slideshow for now. Had cool SW theme music on export, but they flagged it and had to swap in the generic stuff.

My favorite Black Series photo shoot to-date. So many iconic shots from the movie.

This shot is genuinely badass. It made me realize how underwhelming the Obi-Wan/Vader fight was in A New Hope. The prequels and Clone Wars depicted them as total badasses so it sucked to have them just hit each other's lightsabers.

Overall, this was an awesome review! I enjoyed looking at the pictures for this one more than the usual review. You took a lot of great photos.

Action choreography has progressed a lot since 1977 but yeah thankfully even by ESB in 1980 the final duel was more fleshed out and exhilarating compared to the gentle back and forth we see in the original. I think some of the fights in the prequels were too busy, like they didn't have to be swinging their sabers around nearly as much as they were.

That wasn't the case actually. There had been some exciting choreographed duels before Star Wars ever came out. The reason the ANH Obi Wan/Vader duel is so sparse and conservative was because they were still figuring out the FX tech for the Lightsabers.

Well yeah of course there had been well choreographed sword duels before Star Wars but it's also still true to say action choreography has progressed nonetheless. I just meant that in Star Wars the choreography became more refined with time and yes the effects team figuring out how to make lightsabers work is a very valid reason for why the original fight was so stiff.

Looks like there's a bootleg SDCC version of Kylo Ren now? Many sellers from China/Hong Kong have popped up selling large quantities of Kylo. And one even stole images from ToyArk

Not connected to us, just for the record.

That Kylo from SDCC is getting printed for mass release in wave 1 of Rogue One. Possible they are selling early copies of that, or, selling the ones that didn't pass quality control, etc.
