New photos of the upcoming The Walking Dead TV Series – Rick Grimes 7″ Figure have been released by McFarlane Toys. This is the first take on Rick Grimes, done in the new 7″ scale for the upcoming Color Tops Collection line up. Here’s more info from McFarlane Toys:

Begin your hunt for in-demand figures from the new larger size and incredibly detailed  McFarlane Toys Rick Grimes action figure. From the record shattering hit television show, AMC’s The Walking Dead, Rick, the hardened Sheriff’s Deputy, does whatever it takes to protect his family and fellow survivors from both the walking dead and the living. He and others continue to seek refuge in a desolate and post-apocalyptic world.

COLOR TOPS DETAILS:

  • Figures stand approximately 7 inches tall.
  • Stylized display base for each figure.
  • Features accurate and hyper realistic paint decoration.
  • Multiple points of articulation for various poses.
  • Each Color Tops Collector Edition packaging is uniquely numbered for the ultimate collector.

Rick Grimes is due out in July. The figure will be priced at $19.99. See the new photos after the jump.

It looks good. Not great, but good. I'm super excited for this line, so I'll be getting Rick regardless, but are his shoulders too thin? Neck too long? Something's off. He has no chest, maybe? Hmm. I'll probably buy 2 or 3, in any case.

Where are these alleged multiple POA?? McToys is just going backwards to their Movie Maniacs days of giving you a preposed statue with a couple movable parts.

Are they abandoning the 5" line now?

Other than exclusives, and some of the comic versions, the McFarlane 5" lines are dead. Everything is moving to their 7" Color Tops Collection line.

I'm really happy about that. I passed on all of the 5" ones, because of the scale. Hopefully the 7" line gets the same amount of characters and figures. I know they will be shuffling through multiple properties, so it may take awhile, but I'd love to have the full cast, past and present, of TWD in figure form.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an updated Savage Dragon assortment and Saga.

Unfortunately, the Color Tops stuff, right now, seems to be like a "greatest hits" type line (think Movie Maniacs). Nothing they've shown or said has lead fans to believe they are doing dedicated lines for this scale. So for 7" scale, you may not see anyone but the most popular characters and very few and far between.

i'm feeling the sculpts but i don't want really good looking 7" statues. I guess my walking dead days are done..I liked the 5" line.

I knew the lines weren't dedicated to single properties, but didn't realize it wouldn't be given the full treatment. Bummer. I guess I just hoped that given time, they'd touch on a ton of characters.

Pigeon Toed Rick is the only way I would display him, thank god they didn't take out thigh swivel!!

Who is gonna buy this junk? I'm sure sales of the 5 inch line wasn't where it needed to be to continue, but who is buying 7" plastic statues? Every one of TWD Statues McFarlane has made look the exact same. I think they released Michonne and Rick six different ways (Blood Splatter, B&W, added necklace...) I'm willing to bet the color tops will be the same way. I bet future waves will be the same main characters and they will likely never complete the main cast...

I just don't get how NECA can produce figures in the exact same scale that have tons of articulation yet McFarlane just can't seem to do it.

I mean, it looks good, but I don't have a use for a 7-inch scale statue in a vanilla position. Maybe if he was doing something more dynamic.

I'm buying it. I stand all my figures up and never touch them again, unless to shift them over to make room for more. I prefer less articulation.

I thought this was just a prototype due to the lack of articulation points, but seriously, this is what they're producing in this day and age? I didn't even understand it back when NECA made figures with three points of articulation. If you're going to call it an action figure, at the VERY LEAST, give me five points. That's the bare minimum.

I understand you. But like dis and like dat yo, I'm constantly dragging every figure down from its pedestal and messing about with it. 5 POA is not for the majority. 5" is not ideal for most people, but given that scale with decent articulation or a 7" statue I imagine most will go the 5" figure route.

I'd have to see a potential Maggie before I bite.

Five points isn't my preferred amount with modern figures, but it's the bare minimum. Less than that, and I look at it and think "This is an ACTION figure?". I mean, if it's going to have a small amount of articulation, I just feel like it should at least have the same articulation scheme as a Kenner figure, but I guess they think it makes the hips/pelvis look ugly.

With articulation, I look at it the same way as die cast cars. Maybe I'm not going to be rolling it along the kitchen floor like a 3 year old, but I'd still feel odd owning a die cast car with immobile wheels.
