Hasbro Display From Licensing Expo 2016

Posted on June 21, 2016 at 1:33 pm by Joe Moore under G.I. Joe Toy News, General Toy News

The Licensing Expo is going on, and movie, cartoon, comic and toy fans can expect a ton of posters and licensing tidbits to show up. Hasbro is at the show, and have an assortment of (mostly older) items on display. The display is mainly there to hype up the brands that will be part of the Hasbro Cinematic Universe. Brands include:

  • M.A.S.K.
  • Rom: The Space Knight
  • Visionaries
  • Micronauts
  • G.I. Joe

The photos come via Collider. You can see a ton of new posters there as well. We’ve mirrored the Hasbro images. See them after the jump.

It seems kinda strange that Hasbro is displaying vintage Mego toys from the 70's. No prototypes to show I guess. I hope that means they are going to stick to the original style for the new figures and vehicles.

One odd thing I noticed in that pic... the Pharoid with Time Chamber never came in a box in the USA/Canada/UK, it was carded like the Time Traveler is in front of it, so I'm puzzled as to what that is. A new mock-up or something old I just never saw before.

Count me excited for Rom and Visionaries! Curious how those two will turn out. I hope Rom fits in with the GI Joe and other 3.75'' lines.

Visionaries I could see becoming an epic movie franchise really. You don't get much more future fantasy than a world that turns back into knights and armor because all of technology ceases to work, but then they find a source of magic that can power technology again in a different way.

Transformers Human Alliance and those vehicles with transforming weaponized forms seemed like a test run for M.A.S.K. so I think those will probably be pretty amazing. Kind of curious what scale they'll do or if they'll do two scales. The human alliance scale was perfect for Classic M.A.S.K. but some of those weaponized vehicles they did like the trike, are perfect for 3.75''.

I'd be down for either scale. Human Alliance made for some great vehicles for megabloks minifigs.

They should bring back the "C.O.P.S. and Crooks" line too.

It's a San Diego exclusive for this year.

I'd love to see a shiny, collector-quality 6-7" figure of Rom.

Addendum: I see on the Rom wiki that the character is slated for some kind of reboot as part of a multi-property crossover. I hope the new artistic team doesn't change it too much and clutter it up. The original series was a lot of fun by itself.

I wouldn't mind a classic Dire Wraith figure, either.

I'm so excited about Visionaries and Micronauts! I hope Hasbro will make an actual good playline toys with playsets and good articulation like the 2012 TMNT, but if they dare to switch Visionaries' hologram stickers with those freaking ugly codes for application, I wiil kill them! It's kinda weird and sad to see Gi Joe presented with deceased toylines...it will be far easier to raise the other toy lines from the dead, then keeping dying Gi Joe alive.

I watched the show as kid, thanks to recored VHS (I feel old), it had fantastic dubbing in Hebrew and to this very day me and my elder siblings can quote stupid sayings from this show. I checked the toys, they were cool, indeed they deserve to be brought back.

I'm excited about GI Joe and ROM especially, but ultimately, I can't see anyone not over the age of 40 giving a shit about any of this stuff. But I'd love to be proven wrong. After all, Hasbro seems to be betting the farm on this, so hopefully that means they have a sound plan.

I think they're reusing the same formula that worked for Star Wars and Marvel: they're betting the over 40 fathers to take their kids to the movies and gladly buy them the toys simply because it's also what he grew up with.

    I hope Hasbro the best!

Well, I was born in the 90's, but I have no idea how many adult toy collectors people are from this decade.

I don't think it will be enough, they still need cartoons to keep things up, as they did with the properties you have mentioned.

I'd be interested in COPS as well. Need the cap guns tho.
