Kinetiquettes Thundercats Lion-O vs Mumm-Ra Diorama Statue

Posted on June 15, 2016 at 9:33 am by Joe Moore under Thundercats Toy News

It’s been a bit since Kinetiquettes has shared a Thundercats update. But they’ve finally dropped a few photos, and what they’re showing is pretty fantastic. The update shows off an upcoming diorama statue, that looks like it will be quite massive when finished. Check out the in-progress images for their Thundercats Lion-O vs Mumm-Ra Diorama Statue. It depicts an epic battle between the two inside Mumm-Ra’s pyramid. Lion-O wields the Sword of Omens, while Mumm-Ra defends with his Sword of Plun-Darr.

There’s currently no info on scale, intended price point or release date. We’ll continue to update as more details are revealed. You can see all of the new images by reading on.

Beautiful. This is truly gorgeous and the motion on display is breathtaking. The only question I have is about the grappling cables. Aren't they supposed to come from the sockets housing the claws? It's been a very long time since I've watched the original Thundercats, making it hard to remember.

EDIT: Upon taking a closer look, the four cables appear to be coming from the corresponding finger holes...hard to tell, though.

i'm hating the tiny heads on the chunky bodies and overall wish they stayed more on model with the characters.

What's on model, exactly? They were always pretty chunky. The art for the Thundercats, outside of the initial episodes, steadily declined. I'm ok with a slight aesthetic re-imagining, despite my being a 'day-one' fan. Not trying to be contentious...just genuinely curious about your comment.

I think a perfect example of being on model would be the Icon Heroes Mumm-Ra PVC statue. That had a thick, muscular physique while staying true to the source material.
This is more like they gave it a God of War aesthetic and it doesn't really work for me, imo. but, yeah, the heads in particular...undersized and narrow for those bodies. Compare that to the show intro-where they're big and bulky but still proportioned correctly.
Don't get me wrong though, it is dynamic and competently sculpted, I'm just not keen on the art direction.

I googled your example and see where you are coming from now. You're right, this statue is not a seamless representation of the 'toon's art...but I I like it and prefer this style to what they did with the Cartoon Network 'toon. I noticed a funny thing about the old 'toon while looking at images. I'm just now realizing that their heads are larger than normal. The characters don't meet the 8-head rule for figure-drawing. Factoring in that they (Thundercats) aren't human and making room for artistic expression, I guess it doesn't matter...but I hadn't noticed until this dialogue.
