Time to run some catch up on our S.H. Figuarts Dragonball Z galleries! Today we are taking a look at the recent reissue of Trunks, this time in Premium Colors. (You can check his original gallery here.) Trunks gets more saturated tones to match up with his father’s reissue a couple months back. His release also addresses crazy after market prices like Vegeta’s did. Most notable changes here – richer Super Saiyan hair and blue on the jacket, and less accessories. Let’s take a look after the break courtesy of site sponsor The Toy Source!

Overall
Overall another good reissue to help collectors stay complete. The upgrades are nice, colors pop for sure. This isn’t a full reissue though, as a lot of the accessories were left out. You can see the comparison in these 2 pics (original | premium). Instead of 8 faces, we get 5 – 2 regular and 3 SS. Gone are both smiling faces and the regular open teeth angry face. Original had 7 pairs of hands, this round gets 5. Gone are the rounded open pair and the thumbs up pair. Skin tone is a tad lighter with less weathering/paint. Regular hair, pants, belt and boots are basically the same on both. One thing I noticed, you can see it slightly in the pictures, the new version is a tad shorter. Can’t tell if that’s just my copy or not, but I did my best to tighten things up and get them standing “the same”. In the end, the new version seems a tad smaller. Looks to be an altered torso. Could be plastic compression on a piece by piece basis tho. Not a big difference, but there, at least on mine. Bottom line this is a solid pick up for those looking for an arrival Trunks, and for those already with one – he pairs with Premium Colors Vegeta well in a father/son setup off to the side.

Little late, but worth it. Now I can do one in SS and one without!
Nice. I still need to pick up Armored Trunks.
Yeah, he's starting to trickle out already, couple on eBay from Hong Kong. Unless they KO'd him before he dropped.
Beerus is up!

I never got the chance to buy the first Trunks but I can tell for sure that the new release has a far superior SSJ head than the old one. The eyes on the powered-down head are also more accurate on the new one, but I still cannot decide which of those two versions is better. So basically a tie in that department. Surely the missing extra faces are a minus but I can live without that.
The color of the jacket is a seriously mind-bogling in terms of which is more accurate. In some pictures it looks like the first release is correct, in others it looks like the second one is. I have the feeling that in the anime it tends to be closer to the more purple-ish color though, but it could very well be sth in between !
Overally, I agree with your verdict Tony. Its a solid re-issue that did not disappoint buyers like me, who came late in the game with the DBZ figuarts lines.
My bulma!!!!

Really enjoyed this review. Loved the examples of when that hip articulation works, and when it does not.
I'd say "I'm hoping we get a 2.0 of Future Trunks" but with the series' popularity, I'm sure it's a matter of time. Maybe years, but hard to see a future without an improved Future Trunks in it. That figure is probably the only one in the line that I don't think looks good.
Glad we have this version in the mean time.
