In the Batman Classic TV Series, Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, was portrayed by the late Yvonne Craig (who sadly passed away last year). Her portrayal of Batgirl is still considered one of the best aspects of the classic show, as she patrolled the streets of Gotham City in style on her Batcycle. Tweeterhead is prepping the release of a Batgirl 1/6 Scale Maquette based on this iconic character, which includes the likeness of Yvonne Craig. The statue should be shipping to fans later this quarter.
Today we have a a first look at this gorgeous Batgirl statue courtesy of Tweeterhead. Fans interested in the statue can order it Here. After the jump, you can see over 35 high resolution photos and our full review.
Batgirl 1/6 Scale Maquette by Tweeterhead
- Beautifully sculpted
- Nice attention to detail
- Great likeness
- Fun pose captures spirit of the show
- Easy to assemble
- Massive base make a great display
- None that I could find
When initially solicited, there were two versions of the statue available. There was the standard edition, as well as a second version that included Certificate signed by Yvonne Craig. That second version has sold out, while some remain of the standard edition. This is a sample, so the Batty and Lithograph aren’t pictured here, but will come with the final retail release. The statue comes packaged in a massive and excellent box. It features photos of the statue as well as a great photo of Batgirl herself. The maquette sits on a styrofoam tray and is separated into three pieces. Assembly is simple as you place the head sculpt and cape onto the body and then Batgirl onto the base. It stands about 13″ tall when assembled.
Batgirl is a stunningly beautiful sculpt. Sculptor Trevor Grove went into great detail to bring Batgirl to life. The head sculpt features a great likeness of Yvonne Craig, and it actually appears as if she is wearing the mask. There’s a nice bit of separation between the face and the eye cuts in the mask that helps achieve this effect. The cape is sculpted in a way that looks as if it’s blowing calmly in the wind. The outfit itself has some wonderful small details, such as sewing patterns, and a textured appearance. The gloves and boots are handled different, with a much smoother and vinyl-like appearance. It’s the handling of these different textures that helps to sell the life-like representation of Batgirl. It all comes together with a classic pose, inspired by many of the character photos you would see on trading cards and in magazines.
The paint is handled with great care here. The skin features a very soft, light skin tone, with light brushes of reds to bring out the smooth texture. The outfit is hit with an assortment of purples that has an almost glittery look to it. The gold of the cape interior does a great job of looking like the satin sheen of the original costume. There are assorted, slightly darker, washes where appropriate. Those are handled with a lighter touch to keep with the softer look of the character.
If you’re a fan of the Classic Batman TV Series, there’s a lot to love here. It’s a great, and ultimately timely release. The statue was solicited just a couple of months before Yvonne Craig passed away. There are still some standard editions available at a price of $249.99. You can order it Here.
