Marvel Legends Whirlwind Photo Shoot

Posted on February 24, 2016 at 9:23 pm by DESTRO under Marvel Toy News, Random Photo Shoot

Whirlwind was always a bully, so his mutant abilities naturally led him to a life of crime and petty thievery. He also tried his hand at other professions where his powers gave him an edge, and he agreed to help a criminal ring organize fix races he was in until the police got wise to the system and made the criminals uneasy. Always over-confident, Whirlwind instead flaunted his abilities, creating the costumed identity of the Human Top. His crime spree was stopped by Dr. Henry Pym, in his early career as Giant-Man, with his partner Wasp. This was but the first of several defeats, and Whirlwind only grew deeper in his desire for revenge.

Marvel Legends Whirlwind

Pros
Adds to your Masters of Evil team

Cons
Below average articulation in the arms.(shoulders)

Overall
Most of my character knowledge of Whirlwind comes from the Avengers cartoon. While not a tier one super villain, he still has cool powers, and a cool costume. The figure itself features his saw blade arms that detach, and a good amount of articulation.

Taskmaster from this line is amazing. AMAZING. I had a hard time deciding between the old-school or Udon head but I went with old-school 'cause why not? It's sweet.

In contrast, every Mockingbird I've seen at retail has totally f'ed up sunglasses. Shame, she'd be an awesome figure otherwise. Plus, there's some dude shoplifting all the BAF pieces out of the packages of the figures at the TRU by me. Dick.

    Ask and you shall receive...

Some notes though...the head is not a perfect fit. The Steve Rogers head has a larger peg hole than the peg on the newer Cap figure, so it fits a little loosely and will very loosely bobble unless you stuff it with a paper towel or napkin, or add some nail polish or super glue to the inside to build the peg hole up a bit. It also is a little bit more shallow than the newer Cap head as well, meaning it fits a little high on his body. It looks alright straight on from a static pose, but it really becomes noticeable from the side as you can see in my second pic, as you can see the gap between the neck and the head. *Sighs*...so close...yet so far away....

    Hope that helps!

Well, poop I tried the head on the Kraven body (since Kraven and Cap are built off it) and it seemed alright... Is Hasbro seriously messing with us? First the change the neck peg on the Coulson body for no reason, now this? I think they know they can offer these ideas as repaints/repacks down the road and don't want people making their own, haha. Thanks anyways Mr. Psychic!

The one you have has the best sunglasses/goggles that I've seen on any of them and they still look kinda derpy. Such a shame. If I can find a Mockingbird that looks decent I'd like to pick it up.

I love this Mockingbird figure. But the right ankle on mine broke as soon as I tried to move it. She now has the distinction of being my only super-glued-back-together Marvel Legend.

Both Cap and Mockingbird are phenomenal. I disagree with the batons being too short. Mockingbird has been drawn with her weapons of several different lengths.

Now Cap's shield on the other hand, is too small. I switched it out with the AoU shield, which not only looks better, but doesn't have a crappy looking clip that scratches paint. The only time I will use that shield is if I ever place it on his back. I also think his straps are crap because they can't actually stay on his shoulders. Everything else is perfect on Cap sans the paint job.

BTW, I never realized this until reading through Streets of Poison, but Cap pretty much carries his shield on his left arm.

Actually, her eyes are fine. I was worried about the same thing, but the moment I took her goggles off I realize it was the goggles that make it look like she has derpy eyes. It's just the way the clear plastic makes them look. The eyes are perfectly fine unlike Sharon's.

Your review pretty much hit it on the head Destro. I might be in the minority, but I know most everyone was in love with Taskmaster, and I don't know if I just got a bad figure out of the bunch, but he just didn't do it for me. The joints felt weak, I can't stand the wide shoulder stance he has (as he cannot put his arms straight down,) and all those armor bits get in the way of his articulation. I feel that this and Mockingbird were the home run hitters of the wave, with Cap at a distant third.

I love the re-tool of the Electro mold, along with the cleverly colored weapons (a nod to D-Man, no doubt.) As you said though, Scourge was like a Black Series G.I.Joe, and in a very good way. He could pass for a beefed up Croc Master (minus the crocodile of course...) or a more Navy Seals/SAS styled Undertow trooper during a land assault. He just screams Cobra. Great figure overall.

Count me in with those impressed with Demo Man. I wasn't sure until I saw him at retail today, and I totally snapped him up. Really great figure of a character I'm not super-familiar with, but that's ok. He kicks ass nonetheless. That thigh holster of his rules.

BTW, I've had none of the issues you complained about with Taskmaster (my personal favorite of the wave). Articulation is fine and his joints feel strong...in fact, the plastic quality overall in the new Captain America and Spider-Man Legends 6" lines feels much improved over previous waves. No rubbery knees as of late.

My TM came out of the box with a strong clicking right arm, with a much weaker left arm. He has that gorilla arm stance that I hate as the armor keeps his arms from hanging at his sides, and the re-used molded gun holsters, along with the poor choice of hands (at least one pistol gripping hand would have been nice,) really knocked the figure down a notch or two with me. The lack of sword storage seemed cheap as well. I did like the revolted style joint at the ankles, but it just wasn't enough to save the figure in my eyes. I loved all the retooling, but I couldn't place him any higher on my list. My opinion only of course. In the end, I'm just grateful we got another one to begin with, as anyone even remotely associated with Deadpool drives a ridiculous price on the secondary market, so picking up the ToyBiz version just to fill a space on my shelf was never really an option.

I was wondering why Scourge had such oddly colored weapons, but now I am guessing the colors are homages to his D-Man suit. That's kinda cool.

Ah, my two pet peeves...fake holsters w/sculpted guns and weapons without a working holster/sheath. Tasky would have been perfect if he had real pistols and a legit sword sheath. But regardless, I love the figure.

I've actually been a Taskmaster fan way before he was ever associated with Deadpool, back in the days when he had an exaggerated Brooklyn accent and was training street hoodlums to work for low-level supervillains and mobsters. That and his powers (and the fact that he has a skull face and kids in the 80's just loved skulls) made him somewhat unique and fun.

I've actually been looking at picking up one of the ToyBiz TMs recently. They're not perfect (I hate the head sculpt, with it's massive Down Syndrome-style jaw and all), but I would love to do some modding on it (like using the Legends skull head) and it's really only pulling Buy It Now prices in the $30s or so. I love the new Legends TM but I'd like to give the old-school pirate version some more representation on my shelf (to go along with his MU fig, which is very decent).

Whirlwind is pretty awesome, especially thanks to his sculpt and colors, but there was no reason to give hi open hands. Fists would have been just fine. He also could have used an accessory or something like maybe an effect stand.
