Mezco One:12 Collective Star Trek Captain Kirk

Posted on February 19, 2016 at 12:14 pm by Joe Moore under Star Trek Toy News

Mezco sent out new images and info for their next Star Trek One:12 Collective Figure. Welcome Captain James Tiberius Kirk to the fold. The approximately 6″ scale figure will come packed with accessories and interchangeable pieces. You can Pre-Order The Figure Here. It’s priced at $70 with a release between July and August. Here’s more info:

The One:12 Collective presents Captain James T. Kirk from Star Trek The Original Series. The youngest, and arguably the greatest captain in Starfleet history, James Tiberius Kirk was assigned command of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 and proved to be the perfect choice in leading the crew on their 5 year mission.

Born March 22, 2233 in Riverside, Iowa, James T. Kirk was one of the few survivors of the Tarsus IV massacre. During his time as a cadet in Starfleet, Kirk became the only student to ever defeat the Kobayashi Maru test (the “no-win scenario”). During his time at the helm of the Enterprise, his accomplishments were the stuff of legend. Keeping his crew safe – along with the entire universe – during a career that spanned 40 years ensured his legacy would be eternal.

We’ve expertly crafted Kirk on our One:12 Collective body to create an uncanny actor likeness. This figure has over 28 points of articulation, tons of accessories and interchangeable parts, and features a screen-accurate uniform that was painstakingly tailored.

The One:12 Collective Captain James T. Kirk features:

  • Hyper-realistic portraits
  • Real fabric uniform with detailed trim and rank insignia

What’s in the box:

  • Regular portrait
  • Alternate smiling portrait
  • Fists (L & R)
  • Posing hands (L & R)
  • Phaser holding hand (R)
  • Communicator holding hand (L)
  • Phaser
  • Communicator
  • Phaser Rifle
  • Away Team belt with holster for communicator and phaser
  • Display base with posing post

The One:12 Collective is the perfect storm of collectibility and execution at a six inch scale, featuring pop culture’s favorite movie and comics characters from the DC Universe.

Each figure is packaged in a deluxe, fifth panel window box with translucent acetate slipcover. Designed for collector convenience, the packaging allows for both maximum protection as well as ease of removal for display.

Check out the new photos by reading on.

    This looks very good, IMO.

I remember spotting a prototype for a 12" version on display at SDCC (Quantum Mechanix or Moebius, not sure which), but it seems to have fizzled.

Wonder if there's any possibility of a maroon-jacketed movie version at some point in the future.

That is an excellent take on Spock. Great head sculpt and lots of swappable hands. Well done Mezco.

With all due respect Mr. Moore (did I mention that you're the best?), but you can't tell me you still think that figure looks anything even remotely like The Almighty Shat, can you?

By now I've seen pics of this figure from every conceivable angle and lighting condition and my opinion hasn't been swayed in the slightest...this is one of the worst likenesses of any licensed toy in recent memory.
    One:12 Collective Star Trek-kirk.jpg
It's like their internet was down that day and they couldn't Google reference photos so they just sculpted some random white guy in the office and hoped no one would notice. It's embarrassingly bad.

*EDIT* I just figured it out! Mezco apparently thinks that Kirk was played by Nathan Fillion! They actually pretty much nailed HIS likeness, IMO.

You're welcome to your opinion. But there's no mistaking who this is supposed to be:

Is it perfect? Not by any means, but it's a better Kirk than just about anything released in the 6" scale. And to call it one of the worst likenesses ever is a little overly hyperbolic. We've gotten far worse from far more expensive. You could always opt for the QMx Kirk, though that will be about triple the price.

Agree to disagree, my friend. The only reason he's recognizable is because of the Starfleet uniform. It's kind of hard to argue with side-by-side pics, but you're certainly welcome to your esteemed opinion as well.

And of course it's not the worst likeness ever, but Shatner's likeness is something a lot of toy makers have struggled with over the years, that's for sure. Almost anything Diamond Select has put out has been horrible in that regard, for example. It's weird how no one can really quite nail him (although Kirk has never had a problem with nailing, har-har).

Spock seems to be easy, in contrast. Everyone gets him perfect.

  9. Joe Moore's Avatar Joe Moore says

    02-19-2016, 01:09 PM

Young Shatner had a rounder, softer edge face. Makes it harder to translate from 2D reference into 3D likeness, especially on such a small scale. Nimoy, even while young, had almost exaggerated facial features. More sunken eyes, longer jaw line, more defined nose and lips.

  10. Dolemite's Avatar Dolemite says

    02-19-2016, 01:18 PM

Totally right on both counts. And Spock's distinctive ears and haircut certainly helped him translate well into plastic form as well. You could even muck up his likeness a bit and the hair and ears would still save him.

But yeah, young Shatner is a toughie. He doesn't really have anything super-distinctive to latch onto.

The more I see pics the more it looks like Kirk. No issues from me as it looks great.

these are pretty neat, but a tighter weave on the textiles would make them look a ton better. they all look like they're wearing cable knit sweaters like the gorton's fish stick man.

same problem, more or less, with all the mego style figures.

also, shatner doesn't have blue eyes which is throwing the look of that sculpt waaaay off.

I have been reading about Prelude To Axanar, the most promising Star Trek fan film project to come down the pike in years.

Cool, huh?! But now get a load of this:

Crowdfunded 'Star Trek' Movie Draws Lawsuit from Paramount, CBS (HollywoodReporter.com, 30-Dec-2015)

IMHO, the old spirit, depth and vision of the official Star Trek franchise has suffered in recent years. The effect has been to provide a motivating force for progressively more successful independent fan film tributes. In other words, substandard official product is motivating dedicated fans to fill the gap!

I feel that legal action demonstrates misunderstanding in this regard and helps no-one. In the spirit of letting the market speak, I for one have decided to hold off purchasing any new authorized Trek products while this situation continues.

Imagine the potential of a mutually beneficial relationship between the fan film community and the Star Trek franchise! My dream would be some kind of partnership that sees the Axanar project completed. Rgds

This kind of shenanigans has me seriously rethinking grabbing these. If exclusive versions are going to be so cost prohibitive, then it's kind of hard to support them. Up to $200 for a 6" figure is a little insane.

Whoa, they've reached the low-end "Hot Toys" price point!

I really like these figs, but they're getting out of control now. I get that this line is regarded as "collector grade" (a term that I find to be personally irritating due to the implication that what I collect is chopped liver...) in quality, but too steep a price will cause buyers to think long and hard about exactly what they're getting for their money.

Definitely not an impulse buy...well, I guess the validity of of my opinion is determined largely by socioeconomic strata. In any event, too rich for my blood.

I can't imagine ever paying that much for a 6" figure, but I don't blame Mezco for the price. I would say Vegas Dead Dolls are just greedy price-gougers of the highest order, right up there with ToyWiz and their ilk.

If $160-200 is the new price point for exclusives in the One:12 line, I won't be buying any exclusives. At $65, TDKR Batman was a steal! At $70-80, these One:12 figures are getting pricey, but still totally worth it. Double that... plus? Not so much.

    $200? They can GTFO.

  25. Skoob's Avatar Skoob says

    04-14-2016, 12:34 PM

This figure looks superior to Mezco's first Spock figure, IMO. The incredible price might be driven by a few considerations. We can guess a few: 1) it really is better than the other Mezco Spock, maybe the best in the series; 2) unique costume details add to cost; 3) the official Star Trek licence is cutting into profits; 4) simple greed; 5) to pre-empt scalping based on anticipated demand; 6) other 1:12 figures are flopping, and they need to cover losses.
