Toy Fair 2016 – McFarlane Post Event Details on Reveals

Posted on February 15, 2016 at 4:59 pm by Joe Moore under Horror Toy News, Sports Toy News, Toy Fair, Video Game Toy News

McFarlane Toys sent us a great presentation on their reveals from Toy Fair 2016. We also have a small update. At the show, their new 7″ Scale Figures were shown, but the prototypes lacked any articulation. However, we now know those will sport about 15 points of articulation when they actually hit store shelves (forum member magma169 pointed us to that info). After the jump, you’ll see the full presentation as well as the upcoming release schedule. It includes info on the following:

  • Color Tops Collection – 7″ Scale Figures
  • 10″ Deluxe Walking Dead and Titanfall Figures
  • Walking Dead Deluxe 5″ Daryl Dixon with Motorcycle
  • McFarlane Construction Sets – Walking Dead, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Game of Thrones
  • Walking Dead Mini Big Heads
  • Resin Statues
  • Sports Pick’s

Read on to check it out.

I wish spawn was a fully articulated figure. At least they are coming back but he needs something different. We have the spawn statues.... We want figures.

I guess along with the nhl he has also let go of mlb?

The constructs are beyond awesome. I want to see some horror movie though.

Definitely not a first for McFarlane, but reporting on them does seem to be a first for the Toyark.

They were a quick grab to try and get the whole booth. Anime isn't something we'll actively be covering save for a few items here and there (like DBZ).

I'm really getting into those construction sets. They look phenomenal and some double for 3.75 dioramas.

Well I'm a little upset that their Gears of War figures will just be 7" statues but more than that I'm disappointed that the first one isn't Marcus Fenix even though he was the packaging prototype image. Better 7" statues than 5" less-than-great figures I guess, but if none of them are any classic characters then I may not get any unless GoW4 is superb.

AC series 5 is so depressing. I love how instead of giving us Jacob and Evie Frye, we get Jacob Fry and more bloody Ezio, Arno and Conner figures. God forbid we get the female protagonist of Syndicate alongside the male protagonist if it means missing out on another alternate costume for characters who haven't been in a game for years, and the protagonist of the most ridiculed AC game to date.

McFarlane needs to get with the times and board the articulation train, man! I am glad that Spawn is coming back, but I can't tell the difference between this and the Spawn figures from the late 90's/early 2000's.
Spawn is one of my all time favorite Comic Characters and I've been waiting so long for a super articulated figure that actually has joints that can be used to put the toy in various poses, as opposed to a variation of the static pose the figure is sculpted into.

Okay to everyone saying that the Spawn "statue" will not have articulation here's a bit of an update:

Yesterday McFarlane posted in his FB page a short vid for Valentine's day and he talked about the Spawn figure. In the comments section a fan complained about the lack of articulation of the figure to which Todd replied that as a prototype it does not have articulation and that it will actually have 12-15 points of articulation once in production.
    Rejoice, lads !

McFarlane already did a highly articulated Spawn figure in its Image 10th anniversary line and it didn't go over nearly as well as any of the statue figures with the general fans. Nobody called it a bad figure but there definitely wasn't an outcry for them to do more like it. I think the big thing that makes Spawn work a lot better as a statue-toy anyway is his cape, Spawn has the most dynamic cape among other comic characters so then they can't make it cloth since it needs to be in its own pose. It'd be really weird to have a Spawn toy with a pose but then to always have the cape fixed (or even worse just limp) behind him that doesn't match.

12 to 15 points isn't bad but I'm guessing that a few of them are gonna be swivel cuts that look off if you don't line them up because the muscles clearly no longer match. Like one of my go-to Spawn figures for having a little more articulation than others is Spawn-VI and even most of his joints immediately look off if you move them because it breaks the contour. I'd hope one of the points on the new figure is a ball-joined neck or something better than just a swivel there too.

It just dawned on me that I wish McFarlane produced Into the Badlands figures too along with their Walking Dead license.

12-15 poa is acceptable I guess. Neck, each shoulder, single elbows, wrists, waist, single knees, and ankles. That's about what the DCCU gives...oh.

Much depends on the quality of articulation. If it's done well, the figure could be a real treat.

ESN makes a good point: the cape is such a vital part of the character that it's hard to imagine a satisfying solution that involves nothing more than a strip of plain fabric. (Wire, maybe?)

I missed the boat with Spawn collectibles. I remember some statues that were just mind-bending.

    no excuse.

they should then include two capes.. one normal cape and one wild cape.

articulation these days is a must for me. it's good to hear that it will at least have some. but i still question how useful it'll actually be.

honestly, i'd love to see what NECA could do with a a spawn figure.. a deluxe "ultimate spawn" figure from them would probably be pretty awesome. like i said, two capes, 3 heads (one without the mask, one normal masked head, and an angry masked head) then include a bunch of guns and different weapons, then close it out with a really cool stand. i'd probably pay $50+ for something like that.

Personally, I feel Mcfarlane does a heck of a job with their "staction" Spawn figures. They lend themselves well for dynamic poses and little articulation. It wouldn't hurt to have a figure here or there with 15+ points of articulation but it doesn't bother me that we don't. Many of the figures are so disproportionate that it would be difficult to pose them in any other way.

I have to say that I was really disappointed with what McFarlane showed off in terms of Spawn. I mean, one figure. Not only that, but it looks too much like a rehash of this one:

There are literally hundreds of cool poses that could have been taken straight from the pages of over 200 Spawn comic books and we get this one instead. Underwhelming.

Glad to finally be getting 7 inch Walking Dead figures to go with my horror collection in that scale. Wish that's what we had in the first place. I have to wonder though, will they definitely be 7 inch? As apparently Todd McFarlane can't use a ruler properly, considering he's always referred to the 5 inch figures as "6 inch".
