Updated Preview of NECA Clan Leader Predator

Posted on January 20, 2016 at 1:56 pm by Joe Moore under Aliens and Predator Toy News

Debuting at Toy Fair 2016 will be NECA‘s newest line of Kenner inspired Predator figures. Included among them will be the Predator Clan Leader. We saw a teaser of the sculpt back in December. Now NECA has shared a picture of the in-progress painting of the prototype. The figure should be joined by the Stalker Predator, which was teased earlier this month. We will have much more as it becomes available.

See the image after the jump.

LEADER!!! I definitely want this, I'm hoping that mask next to him is just another Temple Guard tease since his mask was way more unique. I wonder who else will be in series 16?! Lasershot? Stalker (which would also mean Dark Horse's Broken Tusk later)?

For those who are wondering, this is the AVP buck. They're not (at least not yet anyway) giving ab joints or double hinged elbows to the Jungle Hunter body.

I think it was 1994. I remember the Predator line coming after the Aliens line.

It was a weird toy, I remember it being really tall. In retrospect it reminds me of a Psychlo from that awful movie which will go unnamed.

    Here ya go Beckmen!

The stylized armor is looking good, and the sandals on his feet look accurate as well. The bio mask on the original was definitely a unique look, but after taking a closer look at my own collection, bears a striking resemblance (but not exact) to the Battle Armor Lost Predator.

I wonder if they will just repaint this one, or go with something closer altogether?

I actually think they might just do something all new and maybe removable, that or just good ol' unmasked.

NECA are killing me! I've got almost the entire 7 inch Alien and Predator lines now ('Loader and Queen would need to be on sale someplace, and some figures like Queen Attack Bishop just look terrible to me).

I especially like the Kenner-inspired Preds, so I'm really looking forward to Clan Leader.

I love how Lasershot has a touch of Deathstroke about him - I really hope NECA takes the Kenner Predator figures as far as possible. And I'll freak out when they inevitably get to the Kenner Alien line! Those designs are still brilliant.

I think Randy said that series 10 will likely be the first Kenner homage Aliens wave but technically with the two pack we already got our first one.

Thanks for the info! Is there any Twitter accounts or anything I should be signed up to? In all my collecting this is the first time I've ever posted anything!

I've seen suggestions online of the Kenner Snake Alien... Again, thanks for your help.

I'm awaiting the two pack as I had to return the first (broken Pred mandible and a badly painted Xeno).

The NECA twitter is the main reason I joined that site, follow @NECA_TOYS. It's run by Randy Falk, NECA's head of product development, and he is usually very responsive to questions and feedback. He'll even address some negative feedback if people can be civil about it (not those people who say "you guys f**king suck, give me a new toy!").

Also welcome to the Ark. I really like it here, it's cozy.

Thanks, you're not wrong about the Ark! Great site!

Yeah, I'm actually gonna have to join Twitter now after resisting for so long

I can't wait to see the full reveal on this one. I have no nostalgia for the kenner predators (didn't have them as a kid), but I love neca's tributes to them.

Same here. I hope this Predator looks just as awesome coming as he does going, so to speak.

BTW, I love how versatile this new Pred buck appears to be. New arm & torso armor, head, and they're good to go. Limitless possibilities.

I find it both funny and stupid how many people on Twitter were celebrating that his netting will be painted. The basic statement was "thanks for finally painting the netting on a Kenner homage." The reason this is funny is because while Cracked Tusk and Renegade didn't have painted netting Hive Wars and Viper did. Viper isn't actually a Kenner remake like the others but he is definitely a part of the overall Kenner tribute figures. The fact that the netting would be painted is odd though since NECA said they didn't paint the netting for series 13 to remain accurate to the original toys and Clan Leader definitely didn't have netting originally. Did it really bother people that much with Cracked Tusk and the Renegades?

Leader is the Immortan Joe predator! He's got the white dreads, a large apparatus on his back that goes to his head level, and a scepter. I really hope the third figure for series 16 is Lasershot who could also be on an AVP buck as his toy was also bigger than the others.

While that is blown out of proportion a bit the netting does look better when it's painted.

Of course it looks better painted but it's like the difference between an A- and an A. They'd look better with it but they don't look bad without it. I just write it off as Cracked Tusk (who is credited as quite the prolific inventor in his bio) made a type of netting that remains invisible at all times.

I don't even remember the Kenner predator on the far left.

That's Lasershot, he was the other deluxe toy besides Leader. Where Leader's deluxe status came from his bigger size and extending platform boots Lasershot's came from his electronic sounds feature (though Lasershot was a little bigger than the average non-deluxe but not as big as Leader).
