Hey, everyone ready for Star Wars The Force Awakens? Good, let’s take a look at a new Dragonball Z figure then. :) Tamashii Nations has released the next figure in the S.H. Figuarts Dragonball Z line – Super Warrior Awakening Son Goku. This is Goku as seen in the final battle with Frieza when he turns Super Saiyan for the very first time. We’ve had a lot of Gokus (Gokai?) so far, but this time around we get an all new body and a remix of add on parts. The figure continues the upgraded feel plastic-wise that Gohan and SSGSS Goku had, a tighter, denser plastic with matte paint for the skin tone. Let’s take a look at Super Saiyan Goku after the break!

Overall
I’ve been talking junk in the last couple reviews about how I was sick of that original Goku body getting reused over and over. Not this time, thanks Bandai! The body is a complete re-do, and it rocks. Sculpt is on point, joints are tight. New shoulder and crotch articulation is present and works well. The legs are also well done, giving us a thigh swivel hidden behind the ripped pants. Hands are standard reissue from previous Gokus except one set which looks new, a semi-curved open offering. SS hair is a port from previous SS Gokus as well. The faces are a remix of previous Goku releases – we get the angry face from the SDCC exclusive, the standard “yelling” face that older SS Goku had, and a resting neutral face, similar to previous before but not 100% the same (from what I can tell on quick glance). There is no non-SS head here, only Super Saiyan. I really hope this increase in plastic feel, matte paint, tight joints is here to stay, because the figures are like night and day from the first releases. You are paying a pretty penny for these things, and they finally feel worth it in the hand. This specific release, SS Awakening Goku – worth every penny and is a definite must buy. If you’re only going to get one Goku, this is the one.
