Posted on December 15, 2015 at 10:00 am by Joe Moore under Star Wars Toy News

Last night was the Red Carpet Premier of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. To celebrate the occasion, Hasbro tweeted out a photo of a new figure. Check out the first image of the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens C-3PO Black Series 6″ Scale Figure. It’s scheduled for release in Fall 2016. We’ll have more details when they are available.

    Fall of 2016? Geez.

What they should do but won't is include a few interchangeable parts so we can just swap out the arm or leg or something and have an original trilogy C-3PO too.

Also, maybe it's a prototype but those arms look fixed. Oh well, I've got the Revo and Bandai Model of him already, so I'm pretty set.

The Bandai model is all you need, really. (Goes for most characters that they've made, haha. They just blow the Hasbro versions out of the water.)

Hasbro's will be more durable/playable than the model. Models are for display not play.

I'm sure the red arm will be explained, but I dislike it strongly. The figure looks good otherwise. I'd be inclined to buy, if it came with a value-added replacement gold arm accessory. As it stands, I'm looking forward to a glimpse of the classic gold-armed version rendered by Figuarts. I just hope it's priced reasonably.

^ I agree. I also agree with dukefett. There should be a swappable original trilogy arm. Otherwise they would pull a Hasbro and make senseless duplicates.

    Oh wait......

There would also need to be a different shin, 3po's right shin was silver in the OT.

He should come with an alternate arm and leg. He should come with Chewbacca's net and 3PO should come apart in 6 pieces so Chewbacca can carry him in parts. They could do this but won't. We all know they will do a classic version that is dirty and what not that will be part of a box set or exclusive.

I smell classic C-3PO being next years Walgreens exclusive.

Actually doing maybe a TRU or Target exclusive two pack with R2 wouldn't be bad since R2 goes for higher prices now and you kind of need both of them.

The models are great, and I mean none of us here are actually playing with them right? The Black Series, to me anyway, was launched as a collector oriented line of figures not aimed at kids for play.

Hasbro makes everything with kids in mind first, they are a toy company and the biggest use of toys is play. The main thing about wanting to still see some durability/play-value is surviving falls and the ability to just grab it off the shelf and mess with it. It's Hasbro not NECA, DST, DCC, or SH so there's some fun to be had with not necessarily full on play (unless someone is a kid in which case play on) but still fiddling with it to find cool or different, dynamic poses and displays (though you can still mess with those other companies' products but with much more care and caution). I suppose if you just want a good looking representation to stand there and just be then a model does look better and fits the bill swell but a lot of collectors might prefer the tactile nature of the toy. To each their own.

That's totally fair, and I can understand that even though the Black Series is ostensibly a "collector" line, Hasbro's primary market is kids, and they still need to make sure kids can play with them. That's probably why I love the Bandai kits so much; they are most definitely not meant for kids at all. They are only for collectors, and their only purpose is to look as gorgeous, detailed and accurate as possible. Heck, they're the first Star Wars line I like enough to actually collect, haha. But as you said, to each their own!

That said, I should admit that I dropped my 3PO kit onto the floor. Luckily he survived unscathed.

Im betting we get a blingy one in OT colors for SDCC, maybe packed with an R2-D2 in similar bling.

I wouldn't bet on swappable pack ins, but I would sure bet on repaints. R2 needs a re-release or upgrade, so all that will work out by end of 2016 I thinks.

    All speculative of course.

Every time I drop something that isn't Hasbro my heart skips a beat and I just stand there for a second too scared to see whether or not it broke, thankfully nothing has ever broken.

I don't know why but I could see an exclusive pack of R2 and 3PO using the color scheme from the Droids cartoon, I doubt it ever happening but it would be neat.

I know they're a little more fragile, but I'm really not worried if one of them falls, they're all pretty durable. And the models you can just put back together if the arms fall out or something. Literally the only one I'm semi worried about is the Battle droid since he's all hard plastic and he's very thin, but other than that they could all take a fall.

Surviving falls is just my go to breaker of toys that isn't a person. Many of my McFarlane figures suffered damage over the years because they fell for whatever reasons and stuff just broke off, nowadays it does seem like toys (and models ) are much better across the board at surviving falls.
