Details and Photos for NECA Aliens Series 7

Posted on December 2, 2015 at 7:15 am by Joe Moore under Aliens and Predator Toy News

Aliens Series 7 has been fully revealed by NECA. Last night we were given a preview of the Concept 1979 Big Chap Alien, and we had previously seen the Alien vs Predator Xenomorphs. Now we have more info and some new official photos. Details from NECA:

Our best-selling Alien action figure line continues with new favorites!

Series 7 includes the long-awaited release of brand new figures from Alien vs Predator, which are the perfect companion pieces to our currently available AvP-based Predator figures. The Warrior Alien and Grid Alien feature over 30 points of articulation and bendable tails, and stand over 9” tall.

Also in this series is our very first concept figure based on the original prototype suit for the “Big Chap” Alien in the 1979 movie. H.R. Giger originally had the suit cast in a translucent flesh-tone but, in one of the many technical hurdles that had to be overcome to bring his creature to life on screen, repeated difficulties with the material forced the change to the coloring seen in the movie. The figure features 25 points of articulation and bendable tail, and stands over 9” tall.

Look for pre-orders to start popping up online. You can see all of the new images by reading on.

As someone on Twitter said, the barbed part of the tail should be cut off. This is not the final figure though so I'm sure it's just a mock-up error.

Unless of course, this is a representation of the Xeno just moments before Celtic chopped it off...although I seriously doubt that NECA would make a version of the character that was literally on the screen for like 10 seconds before that happened....lol...

Or perhaps they could have a swap out tail accessory...one mutilated and one not, or perhaps they could go with a breakaway piece like the old Mcfarlane Toys City Hunter Predator, which had a forearm that could either be plugged in or removed to replicate the battle damage he sustains in the film.

Glad to see we're finally getting Grid/Nethead. I really hope we get Specimen 6 from the XB360 game soon enough...

Yeah but is the grid pattern on his head going to be sculpted or just painted on?

In the movie Celtic cuts off the tail before he nets it and causes the gridding. I don't object to it having the full tail, it looks better without that injury just like NECA made the predators themselves look better. I can't believe how well I remember some scenes from this bad movie.

I would hope the final one will be sculpted, in the movie the cuts were deep enough so just paint would probably not look right.

I went back and watched that scene after you mentioned it, and you're right. I'm kinda hoping we'll get a removable tail piece that pegs in to show off battle damage, like the way the Mcfarlane Predator I mentioned was, but it's not a deal breaker.

From the looks of things, it does look sculpted. Of course, without another angle, I could be wrong, but I cannot imagine why it wouldn't be. The Mcfarlane version had sculpted lines, and that figure came out years ago...

So excited for these (one of the few people who actually enjoys the first AVP) and these look to be some really great figures.
Though does it look to anyone else like the shoulders are swivels and not ball joints?

I'm just worried since these look to be the same basic sculpts as the AVP-R Alien warrior figure, just with all the new articulation (and heads) added in.

Yeah, you're in the great minority on that opinion (liking AVP that is).

These new ones should have ball hinge shoulders, NECA showed off the articulation layout however long ago. For what it's worth NECA has always done a good job at hiding the shoulder pose on their xenomorph figures like the excellent dog alien.

I guess it's a testament to NECA that the artic was hidden well enough that I couldn't tell.

    You're welcome

Some NECA figures hide articulation well enough that it surprises me and/or friends who've seen my stuff that the articulation exists at all. Of course it often limits the full range of motion but never enough to actually complain and it looks a lot better than a typical joint.

Still a little worried about the outwards ROM on the shoulders on these. Still, just about as excited as I can be to get such nice figures of my favorite designs of the xenos.

I wouldn't too worried about the arms' range, Dog alien also did that where it looked like he'd have no outwards movement but the way the socket is pitted he can totally move.

I do like the design of the aliens from AVP except for one big thing: their necks from the side are ridiculously thick. This is because the actor's head was in the neck area as where with previous suits the actor's head was closer to the teeth.

You are not alone. I like the first AVP quite a bit. It's probably my second favorite after the original Predator movie and I don't understand why everyone acts like they hate it so much. I always thought Predator 2 was weak and AVP: Requiem is really lousy IMO.

Funny. Since you mention Predator 2 I always thought of it as the best among all Predator films. I'd rate it even higher than original. The original while being very good resembles Commando and other Arnie flicks too much. Also P2 introduced more stuff than P1 ever did.

As for AvP I am also among the minority. I'd guess the human-predator interaction and bulky design of hunters were the main reason why people hated it. Add Antarctica and there you go.

Back to Neca's AvP. I will pick these babies no matter what. It's no big deal but it would be nice if Grid will be with it's tail cut. Or a detachable tail with extra head without gridding.

While I don't hate AVP I don't like it either. Most people dislike it because it is so unfaithful to its source material. I am more likely to watch AVP than Alien 4 though. AVP:R was also poor but in my eyes it did carry the R-rating that AVP lacked and Wolf was a cool predator (when it wasn't so dark that you couldn't see shit).

Predator 2 is a guilty pleasure of mine but it doesn't come close to the first as a film. They traded in the first film's sense of tension for extra gore factor, this doesn't ruin the movie to me but it does make it weaker than the first.

Regarding AVP you are correct that the predator-human interactions were a main source of contempt from fans. In the comic that the movie clearly borrows most of its frame from the hero predator winds up helping the humans because the human doctor who kept him alive after his crash was killed by the aliens and he felt he owed the debt to her allies. In the movie Scar just decides to team up with whatshername after she gives him his plasma caster. There's a huge gap between what it took for the predator to join the human's side and in the movie it came off as more of a stretch. Besides their stupid tanky designs Scar also just had blue eyes. Every predator on screen before him was clearly shown to have pretty much gold-yellow eyes while Scar has this stupid, gentle face with baby-blue eyes. I can't complain about the aliens really beyond saying they weren't scary but only because we were already so familiar with them.

On Twitter it seemed like Randy teased that we might get a two pack with battle-damaged Celtic and Grid.

Hmm, I might struggle to justify damaged Celtic and another Grid, unless they're really quite different. And I maybe wouldn't be so happy if Grid then turned out to have a damaged tail after buying the original without it.

Well Celtic could have the scars on his helmet, a missing breast plate, and then just general wear. Grid I think would just be like the AVP drone but in Grid's blue base instead of its grey/brown with the end of its tail severed, this time there would be no grid pattern cut in yet. That or it'd be this Grid again but missing the end of the tail. Dunno.

I'd be needing a full-on acid spray from Grid

That would actually be a cool plug-on/off accessory for the end of the tail in a somewhat similar nature to Otachi's acid spit.

I believe it's the Weyland commando, a repaint of the Dog Alien, and Alien 3 Ripley. The Dog Alien won't be the same brown/copper color supposedly. I could be wrong but that sounds right.
