Diamond Select Toys has jumped back into the DC game with collectibles for the Animated series, 66 Batman, and now Gotham. Gotham currently has Minimates and Select figures in the rotation and we are taking a look at the Selects today. Series 1 consists of Detective Jim Gordon, Selina Kyle and The Penguin. All are in the 7 inch scale range with above average articulation and detailed paint apps top to bottom. All 3 come with diorama pieces, and the Gordon / Kyle pieces connect together. Check out over 60 images of Series 1 after the break!

Diamond Select Toys Gotham Select Selina Kyle, Detective Jim Gordan & The Penguin

Pros
Diorama pieces are fantastic
Paint applications are tops
Articulation above baseline figures

Cons
Gordon’s face sculpt is off

Overall
These figures are a solid start to a Gotham line. On their own, they may not excite an avid figure collector. It is however nice to have a representation of this version of the Batman universe on the shelves. The future Catwoman Selina Kyle is tops of the bunch, it works as a young Selina, is well sculpted. The Penguin is representative of the show, but doesn’t scream classic Penguin. Gordon is well done articulation and overall sculpt wise, even the face, but the face just doesn’t capture the essence of Benjamin McKenzie. I don’t expect these to be 3d scans of the actors. Kyle and Penguin both are artistic interpretations based on the show, and that’s cool. Gordon however doesn’t connect like that. He has no other unique attributes since he just wears a standard suit, so the face is the only connection point, and it’s not quite there.

The dio pieces – awesome. This is what makes the Select pieces stand out IMO and I can’t get enough. I hope future assortments use the connection angle to give us even bigger setups.

This wave is a good start, but what I am excited about is future villains. Ones that wear Mk I costumes of sorts. The recent Firefly as example from season 2. Fish in one of her crazy get ups since she’s a Gotham first character. Those will work with existing figures and fill out a DC shelf well.

They are. I think Selina works. If they go with Mark I proto costumes for the villains, it could be a nice line up. Characters that are just wearing regular clothes etc will be a harder sell going forward IMO.

I can see that. Alfred, Harvey and Nygma are all up next. All plain clothes though. However, Alfred makes a good overall "Alfred" figure to have.

Selina sort of looks cross eyed...
