Toys R Us has one of the many retailer exclusive Black Series figures coming out for Star Wars the Force Awakens. The standard release Snowtrooper due out in wave 4 later this year gets his first run here as an Officer with a pauldron to signify his rank. He adds to the growing helmeted bad ass line up coming for Episode VII. We’ve run him through a session so check out over 30 pics after the break!
Star Wars Black Series First Order Snowtrooper Officer
Pros
Overall solid sculpt
Bulky legs and knees
Layered armor
Cons
Head limited and tilted due to pauldron
90 degree elbows suck
Overall
The Snowtrooper mold is a great looking figure on first glance. He’s stocky, has layered armor, removable backpack. The legs and ankles are done well, bulky and hold a pose. After digging in though, there are some issues. Nothing to keep one from grabbing IMO, in a standard pose he’s good to go. The head is on a permanent tilt due to the shoulder pauldron, and has limited range on that side due to it. Arms – the new limited elbows used on the FO Stormtrooper are back, and stink. Coupled with double in-out wrist movement and it’s impossible to get a cool double handed gun holding pose. Previous Black Series had around 135 degrees of range, allowing an upward point of the weapons if you worked it. That is not an option now. You can squeeze out 1 double handed gun pose and that’s about it. The Pauldron is well done, colored in traditional orange that the Sandtroopers used. Makes no sense since they are pure white designed for snow combat, might as well be a target. But that’s not Hasbro’s fault. Bottom line, he works well with the FO Stormtroopers and is on par with the rest of the offerings so far. Troopers will be plenty for the upcoming movie and he’ll fit right in!

That updated Tie Fighter is nice.
If I collected this line, I would have so much fun creating something awesome with Starkiller, the Tie Fighter, and a bunch of Stormtroopers.
The soft rubbery plastic they used on the TIE and X-Wing is a real disappointment, especially since the sculpt is nice. Warped wings forever.
It's the wing panels. You can see in the photo they are not flat.
Has anyone bought and opened the First Order Snowspeeder yet? I'm wondering if it has rubbery/warped parts too.
I'm mainly out of collecting Star Wars and pretty much have been for three years, minus a single figure here or there. That said I wouldn't pass up some of the new figures, maybe certain ones that strike my fancy, but I just cannot get into this 5 POA business. I will wait to see what the 3.75 black figures look like and possibly get some of those.
Micromachine spotlight is up:

the big thing that kept me away from the new MM is the fact that they dont have stands like the original ones had.
Yeah that was a bummer. Only way to get cool poses with the ships interacting was to put two playsets next to each other. Hopefully Hasbro or someone makes some stand packs with the proper peg ports. Even peg add-ons for Tamashii stands would work.
Love the new micro machines, but yeah they need to include some flight stands. It's the one thing holding the line back from true greatness. Even so, building tiny armies doesn't get much better for the price points.
Updated with the Snow Trooper Officer:

Shame about the dumpy elbows on the Snowtrooper. But, that's the state we're in. Cut as many corners as possible when people will buy it anyway.
I feel like the orange pauldron isn't really an issue since it was never the intended goal of the Empire to have any kind of camouflage so it stands that the First Order feels the same. Snowtroopers are just white because Stormtroopers are white, if they were actively trying to hide themselves then Scout-Troopers wouldn't be wearing all white too.

Edit: Mine came in today and I was able to get mine into a nice both hands shooting pose. I really like the pauldorn's visual flair.
cool toys, hope the movie is good

Admittedly though it's possible the pauldrons on these new snowtroopers wouldn't do too much to give them away. Snow blindness could hide them as it might anything, otherwise they'd be just as visible as any other snowtrooper regardless of the target on their shoulder.
