Pros
- Solid sculpts
- Nice variants
- Interchangeable hands
- Good articulation
Cons
- Scorpions mask does not stay on
Overall
Since these are mainly paint and accessory variations, I won’t go into a full blown review of the figures. Our own Tony Bacala covered the mass retail Mortal Komabt X Series1 Figures very well in his reviews (Scorpion, Raiden, Sub-Zero).
I did enjoy photographing these. The figures are very solid representations of the characters. The sculpts are nice and detailed, the joints were very tight and the paint jobs were on par with other releases in this scale. The figure include alternate (and in some cases less) accessories than the mass retail versions as well as new paint jobs. Scorpion features a blood splattered body and includes alternate hands, a translucent orange skull and his throwing spears. Sub-Zero has his flesh cast in clear blue plastic and has alternate hands, daggers and an ice ball. Raiden features a transitional clear lower body (mid teleportation) and includes alternate lighting hands, alternate standard hands and a lighting ball.
I had no problems posing the figures. Each held their poses without issue. The figures are weighted well, so they don’t fall over easily. Really the only negative thing is Scorpion’s face mask. There’s no clip to hold it in place. It just sits there, so it tends to fall off quite often. It happened so often I just decided to crazy glue it on. Other than that, I had no real issues. They’re fun to pose and make nice alternates to the mass release versions.
First up, Sub-Zero!

Great figs, really well done.
Yup, looks pretty darn good. The eyes seem a little lacking in detail, but the figure looks astounding otherwise. Psyched to see more.
I think I'll wait for the MK figures from Storm Collectibles. These don't impress me much and I prefer the klassic costumes anyway.
*sigh* The wait for the smaller MKX figures is killing me. Still some awesome shots there. One thing though...no ice ball? His hand looks like it has a hole for one to plug into.
I'm thinking of getting the 6 inch Sub-Zero though for display and giving the weapons to my 3.75 MK9 Subby. The ice hammer especially looks too small for the 6 inch version. It seems a lot bigger in the game.

That seems like an odd bummer. He should always have the ice ball.
Well I'd say you started these galleries with the best of the wave, I don't have Raiden so I can't say for sure but Scorpion is definitely not on par with Sub-Zero.
WOW! These look incredible!!!
I dont collect 6" figures but I might have to try and snag a Sub-Zero at least.
I've finally run into these in the wild, and sadly, I was a little underwhelmed. The details are incredible, but those eyes....ugh...they just kill the aesthetic for me. They are too small and poorly done, and since I don't have the steady hand to try and fix them myself, I ended up canceling my pre-order because of them.
I'm hoping the Previews exclusives coming up have better paints on the face.

Word of warning regarding Scorpion: his chain spears are made from a softer plastic and while this means they're harder to break it also means they will start to droop downward if you leave him in the "get over here" pose for actual display.
I would have liked his removable mask except for two things, it comes off very easily and the face underneath is just a normal face. Those are my only gripes with the figure and overall I'm really glad Mezco pulled these off.
You think that brushing some superglue or something onto the chains would strengthen them and help keep them from drooping?
And I have to agree about the unmasked face. It should definitely be rocking his beard (that everybody seemed to grow at once) but the mask probably wouldn't fit over it properly.
Saw these in TRU yesterday. They're pretty sweet...I might have to pick up a Sub-Zero. Can't wait for the eventual Kano.
I also don't see a picture in the gallery but you can store his swords on his back. Using pictures 4 and 27 for reference, you slip the blades in between the black tips of the straps. The strap ends function as little clips and the swords hold rather well. It was a little tough to do the first time I wedged them in on my figure but it becomes easier after that.
I love how these look but they are drastically undersized, especially for their price. If they were marvel legends or even dvuc sized i mighta dropped the hammer but i like my figs to be somewhat compatible and these just arent with really any other line.
I hope they make Sonya. Anybody else will be an added bonus.
Okay gotta run C.H.U.D. 2 is on.
Amazing pics! Really nice job!
I'm kinda surprised by some of the things you guys are saying on here. Especially considering the garbage that Jazwares put out.
Let's start with the eyes. When you see the packaged figures in the store, Mezco put a plastic cover over each figures head sculpt. The fact that you can see through this enough to judge the eyes is a shocker. Personally I like how they're done. When you look at Scorpion unmasked they look right. Maybe the mask throws you off.
Regarding the scale, they're 6" figures. No debate about it! What were you expecting?
Personally I'm very happy with these. I waited forever for MK figures(like you guys)and Mezco has far exceeded my expectations. If you guys want to pay a foreign company for overpriced figures go right ahead. I'm gonna stick with Mezco.
Oh, boy. It's very hard for me to resist 6" glow in the dark figs. Add to that the fact that it's Raiden and he actually features an Asian face sculpt (I'm still not sure how Christopher Lambert was cast as Raiden)...I guess I'll have to schedule rounds of visits to TRU in the coming weeks.
