ThreeZero Talks With Kevin Eastman About New Their New TMNT Figures

Posted on August 6, 2015 at 8:51 am by Joe Moore under Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Toy News

ThreeZero is collaborating with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles creator Kevin Eastman. He is redesigning his classic comic style TMNT characters for ThreeZero, who will be producing new fully articulated 1/6 Scale TMNT Figures based on those designs. We got our first glimpse of the initial clay sculpt prototypes at San Diego Comic-Con 2015.

ThreeZero posted up an Interview with Kevin Eastman, where he talks about his inspirations for these new designs, the direction he hopes to go and what characters he’s like to see ThreeZero develop. Here’s a snippet:

ThreeZero: Can you share with our readers a few other characters you would like to develop with Threezero after the first four Turtles are available?

Kevin Eastman: Man, that’s a long list – just thinking about TMNT universe characters alone! Shredder is always a great option of course, and I always wanted to see a really well done April O’Neal. Elite Foot soldiers and the re-designed Slash from the IDW series would be exceptionally cool. Guess it would be awesome to hear which ones the fans would like to see once these come out, and maybe I could work on the designs for those next! Woo!Woo!

Along with the interview, there are a few new photos of the designs. You can see them after the jump.

Good interview. I think the only TMNT designs I like less than these is the recent live action movie versions. :/

Kevin Eastman is my Stan Lee. I've met him in person amd talked to him online here and there. He's a really cool dude. It's cool to see him involved with making figures again. Makes me think there is still hope for us TMNT fans that don't buy Playmates crap.

As far as what figures for threezero to make, that's simple. 1990 Movie Turtles! 4 turtles, Casey, Shredder, Splinter, foot soldier and April. After that maybe some of the IDW stuff. These designs are interesting, but they remind me of the CGI movie versions. If I was Kevin I would concentrate on the source material. Make turtles that we are familiar with. I feel like all we see is redesigns of our favorite characters. Thing is, not many have ever
made classic ones. NECA made the only true classic figures until Playmates made some. Out of both companies we mainly got just turtles. Mondo and threezero have also only revealed turtles figures. If somebody reveals a figure that isn't a turtle, then I'll be interested.

Yeah, he seems like a cool guy, the stuff he wrote in the Ultimate Turtles Collection was pretty inspirational. hopefully all the good exclusive weapons for these guys will not be just sold on the ThreeA website and hopefully Mondo, this or the other 1/6th scale line will get past the initial four Turtles.

These look pretty fantastic! I love that they're making original figures not particularly based on anything. Also the very notion of a Casey Jones 1/6th figure, my favorite character of all time from TMNT, is just icing. I might have to get Donnie when it comes out. Anything about a release date?

I might pick up Raphael just from a love of the character and Eastman's style but I'm really not digging these. I wish they'd just given us Eastman style Turtles.

I only like the Leo one there - not too keen on the Bay-esque features and physiques unfortunately.

One more thing I like about these is that they actually have exposed articulated joints and they are not covered like in the 2014 movie ones. I don't these look like the Michael Bay versions at all, these look darker and grittier.

Are these "action figures" or just mildly posable statues? Coz the resin models looked like statues, but the posed & painted figures and the accessories look more like a toy than a statue...

They'll be fully articulated 1/6 scale figures. That's all ThreeZero produces, they don't do statues.

Ok, cool. Gets so confusing nowadays with collectibles. Even some statues have articulation!

I think they look great and will surely be buying them. The one thing that looks a little off to me at the moment though is Mikey's thighs look huge compared to Raph's like he's been playing rugby a lot or something. It's Eastman's design though, so I guess none of us are worthy... Or maybe it's because Mike skateboards more than anyone else. If everyone is not going to be the same size, then Ralphael should be the bruiser. Could just be the photography playing tricks though. Really like the figures either way.

I have yet to dealve into collecting 1/6th scaled figures, but I really love how these look. Being from ThreeZero they're bound to be expensive, so I might pick up at least a Raph, maybe even Mikey.

I would love to see what Kevin would come up with for Shredder and Krang if they do continue beyond the Turtles.

These usually run a little lower than Hot Toys. I wouldn't be surprised if they were $230 shipped each, with a box set option that saves some cash.

Isn't it funny guys that the most awesome thing we could have 1/6 shredder or foot soldier or even an April one'll will be ruined by Kevin trying something new.. I want classic purple foot soldier and silver and orange. But that's wishful thinking
