Photo of New King Hsss Release Plus More Info

Posted on July 29, 2015 at 1:55 pm by Joe Moore under Masters Of The Universe Toy News

As promised, MattyCollector has posted a photo of the updated Masters of the Universe Classics King Hsss with the snake body. Skeletor’s Love Child has also provided a bit more info and an explanation of why it’s being released this way:

Hey guys,

We’ve been reading the boards and we understand there is a lot of frustration with our favorite slithery foe, King Hssss. We get it – certain things were expected and then those things changed, which is frustrating. It is also frustrating when statements like the ones that were made regarding the Snake Hssss Torso, are put out to you, the fans, before their feasibility has been confirmed. That’s what unfortunately happened here.

As we tried to rise to the challenge of somehow offering the King Hssss Bendy Snake Torso as an added bonus to an upcoming figure, we came to the conclusion that it was just impossible to make it work financially and still offer a product at the $26 price point for the sub. The Snake Torso itself is the cost of a regular MOTUC figure, so trying to just “throw it in” with Buzz Saw Hordak would have made the retail jump to the price of a two pack, which we didn’t want to do. And let’s be honest, that’s exactly why it wasn’t included with the original King Hsss in the first place (where it would have made a lot more sense).

We still really wanted to offer the Torso, because it turned out absolutely fantastic. So we decided to offer it as its own item – a complete figure – instead of not doing it at all. Soooo we worked closely with the Four Horseman and eventually came up with this offering.

What you’ll get is a Full Snake Form King Hssss figure which includes the new Bendy Snake Upper Torso with a repaint of the Snakemen lower body, and the King Hssss Briefs. You’ll also get a Bonus Transforming King Hssss Head (Snakemen Repaint) that can work with either of your King Hssss figures and some new repaints of the Snake Men Weapons. Overall we feel this is a more complete offering than just a torso in a polybag, and allows for customizable options with the original figure.

We understand it’s not exactly what you were expecting, and that some of you aren’t happy about that. But we hope you see that we are trying to offer you the best product possible, and in order to do that sometimes things have to change.

Check out the photo by reading on.

That is just shady business and disgusting that Mattel is doing that to people.

I don't think is it shady. They explained why they are doing it. Now it is some BS that the snake heads were not in the 2 pack to begin with, that was shady. I think they should have just sent the snake torso free to everyone that has a sub. Just a torso in a plastic baggie and called it good. I just don't like the idea of getting an identical figure I already have, but I can paint one of them or add a cape or something.

Honestly I like the decision (and the transparency), all things considered.

They're doing their best to manage a line that has been mismanaged for years without going broke and still getting product out. Given that they have this big honking snake torso that's going to make any individual go overbudget and take up an enormous amount of package space, making it a full figure "bonus" release is a nice move.

Also, it doesn't hurt that I never got around to picking up the 2 pack and I do have an interest in this version of King Hsss.

I hope they at least package him with the snake torso showing and the regular torso is tucked into the bottom. Or is this only the snake torso and legs??

It's only the snake torso with the legs that came in the 2 pack.

And I disagree agree, it is shady tactics Last year they showed him off with the torso and said that it will come with a different figure in 2015, but anyone with a sub would get it regardless of where it is packed.

Now they are telling their subbers that is not the case and that they will not only have to order it as if it were a separate figure for $27, but also pay the additional shipping charges because it will not be included with their sub. Sorry, but that stinks of shadiness. People are going around $40 for a $5 extra. Why not just put it in a weapon's pack?

I wish they would do a new weapons pack, But they said that will not happen because the sell thru on them was low. They could have made the snake torso part of the Head pack that comes in the 200x sub, since it is part of that style, but they did not.

See, that is just it, it is one excuse after another with Mattel. The snake body probably costs them $5 to make each, so what they are doing is ripping off their customers and lying about it.

But we don't know that for certain. Isn't it possible that they're being honest and couldn't get snake torso to work so they just offered him up as a different figure? I think if they had wanted to make this two separate figures from the get go, they would've just flat out said it and wouldn't have done a tactic that would annoy their customers.

Yeah we do there is no way they sell the figures for what they do and that snake part even costs them $5 dollars to make it would be a small profit margin.

This snake torso scam is the last straw for me. I will not be getting anymore subs from Mattel. I was considering the Thundercats line, but since I can't trust Mattel to not pull stunts like this in the future, I will have to pass.
