Update on Masters of the Universe Classics King Hsss

Posted on July 28, 2015 at 9:41 am by Joe Moore under Masters Of The Universe Toy News

Over on the MattyCollector page, an update was posted by Skeletor’s Love Child. There have been some changes to the release of Masters of the Universe Classics King Hsss. In short, they had to make some concessions on the figure to ensure a quality release, but he will not be a required purchase for sub holders. Here is the update in full:

From the desk of Skeletor’s Love Child:

I know you guys have been wondering about King Hssss and now that I have some concrete answers I can share what’s going on.

Yes, the new torso was scheduled to be released with Buzz Saw Hordak. However, when we tried to combine the two we found out that it wouldn’t be possible to do so due to costs. We tried a few different options (alternate packaging, higher price point, etc.), but none of these choices made sense (business or common).

So here’s what we’ve decided to do: King Hssss will still be released in 2015 but he will arrive as a complete figure. Accessories, alternate head, another set of legs…it will all be there. After reviewing all the different factors that went into making this product this was the only thing that made sense as well as the right thing to do. We know that promises were made regarding how you were supposed to receive this figure but ultimately…it just wasn’t possible. It didn’t sit well with any of us to force you to pay a premium for this item so we decided to put the power in your hands.

As a sub holder you will not be locked in to purchasing this figure. King Hssss will be offered during the month of November as an add on item. If you want him, he’ll be available during Early Access; if not, you won’t be obligated to purchase. All remaining stock not purchased will be offered during our November All Access sale.

There will be pictures posted of the bendy headed Snake Men leader at a later date, but I didn’t want to wait any longer to give you a heads up.

Transparently Yours,

Skeletor’s Love Child

When they release the updated photos, we’ll be sure to share them here.

That is just shady business and disgusting that Mattel is doing that to people.

I don't think is it shady. They explained why they are doing it. Now it is some BS that the snake heads were not in the 2 pack to begin with, that was shady. I think they should have just sent the snake torso free to everyone that has a sub. Just a torso in a plastic baggie and called it good. I just don't like the idea of getting an identical figure I already have, but I can paint one of them or add a cape or something.

Honestly I like the decision (and the transparency), all things considered.

They're doing their best to manage a line that has been mismanaged for years without going broke and still getting product out. Given that they have this big honking snake torso that's going to make any individual go overbudget and take up an enormous amount of package space, making it a full figure "bonus" release is a nice move.

Also, it doesn't hurt that I never got around to picking up the 2 pack and I do have an interest in this version of King Hsss.

I hope they at least package him with the snake torso showing and the regular torso is tucked into the bottom. Or is this only the snake torso and legs??

It's only the snake torso with the legs that came in the 2 pack.

And I disagree agree, it is shady tactics Last year they showed him off with the torso and said that it will come with a different figure in 2015, but anyone with a sub would get it regardless of where it is packed.

Now they are telling their subbers that is not the case and that they will not only have to order it as if it were a separate figure for $27, but also pay the additional shipping charges because it will not be included with their sub. Sorry, but that stinks of shadiness. People are going around $40 for a $5 extra. Why not just put it in a weapon's pack?

I wish they would do a new weapons pack, But they said that will not happen because the sell thru on them was low. They could have made the snake torso part of the Head pack that comes in the 200x sub, since it is part of that style, but they did not.

See, that is just it, it is one excuse after another with Mattel. The snake body probably costs them $5 to make each, so what they are doing is ripping off their customers and lying about it.

But we don't know that for certain. Isn't it possible that they're being honest and couldn't get snake torso to work so they just offered him up as a different figure? I think if they had wanted to make this two separate figures from the get go, they would've just flat out said it and wouldn't have done a tactic that would annoy their customers.

Yeah we do there is no way they sell the figures for what they do and that snake part even costs them $5 dollars to make it would be a small profit margin.

This snake torso scam is the last straw for me. I will not be getting anymore subs from Mattel. I was considering the Thundercats line, but since I can't trust Mattel to not pull stunts like this in the future, I will have to pass.
