NECA Con Exclusive Ambush Predator Bio

Posted on April 29, 2015 at 12:43 pm by Joe Moore under Aliens and Predator Toy News

Check out the cardback and bio for NECA‘s Ambush Predator. The figure, which will be exclusive to the convention circuit, is a repainted  Viper Predator. It comes in a translucent plastic, which is an homage to the Kenner Predator figure of the same name, which was a mail-away item. It will include two masks, one with paint apps and one without and also includes some battle blade accessories. The figure was revealed a few days ago over at ActionFigureInsider.

Read on to check it out.

Pretty weak offering here Neca. I definitely expected better. Hopefully the rest won't be on the cheap like this one is.

Awesome. This and the T-800 with the three swapable arms where the all-time best back in the days of Kenner.

I actually prefer when exclusives are just repaints like this, if only because it makes it much easier for me to be okay with not getting them. If they had made one of their SDCC exclusives something like Karloff from PR then I'd be ticked because I really want that, as where this is meh but I can still hold on to hope for Karloff.

Actually, it's not a repaint of either the Nightstorm or Cracked Tusk molds, which are two entirely different Predators altogether. It's another Jungle Hunter mold redeco, with it's bio mask being based off the recent Viper Predator.

Thanks, was looking at it on the phone small screen here to do this, looked like the CT at first glance. Updated post.

It's just a repaint of Viper Predator with the second wrist blade and everything, the bio even says that this is Viper Predator.

I actually think it looks great while not glowing. I think that grey color looks pretty nice.

Anyways.. I wish the predator wasn't just a clear figure.. I wish they had gotten more creative. Maybe give us a little display background, and paint him so that he blends in with the background and have it look the way he did in the movie. Now that would be awesome.

I know they gave us those other predators that sort of worked like that, but I think they could expand on that concept.

Here is a reference photo of the original Ambush Predator. I really wish that NECA wouldn't have messed with the bio mask design. I do like that they are giving us an unpainted chrome mask, but it still looks nothing like the original toy's mask, which looked much cooler in my opinion with all of it's sharp edges. I also wished that the included the black "flak" vest as well.

At least with this one, they'll be closer to finishing off the Kenner line, with only two or three left to go that haven't been done yet, allowing them to focus on others. Those last two or three though are pretty unique looking...hopefully NECA doesn't take too much creative liberties with them and do them lazy...

i figured AMBUSH was gonna be this years SDCCE, when the teaser photo popped up
makes sense, the KENNER release was a DTC mail away exclusive
plan to snag both, AMBUSH and the glow in the dark ENDO

If they make Broken Tusk from the AVP comics then a glow-in-the-dark Stalker would be the natural repaint, or vice versa. I do think a Spiked Tail toy is one that they haven't done yet that would be the least faithful to the original, if they do. They can still make Clan Leader, Lasershot, Stalker (probably change the name because of the Predator 2 character), Spiked Tail, and maybe Night Recon (since they already did the Hive Wars warrior predator). Of course more Kenner themed but NECA original, such as Viper, are also on the table.

I seem to recall reading that these will be at other conventions as well in case you miss them at SDCC which would explain the "convention exclusive" sticker instead of a SDCC exclusive sticker.

It is possible that they could reveal something for those licenses as SDCC exclusive, but I kinda doubt it. I know they said they'll reveal some more Alien and Godzilla stuff at SDCC but I doubt there will be any exclusives.

That is lame, especially for Godzilla. NECA can't even give us an actual release date for the 54 version and replaced his May date with a worthless repaint.

To be fair the '54 Godzilla has yet to be officially solicited and those cards at conventions are never right for NECA, but the CVG Godzilla is a little disappointing. At least the '54 Gojira looks to be the best suit based one yet (accuracy wise) so it should be worth the wait and NECA has said that we'll see at least one new design for the king at SDCC.

Then they shouldn't put release months on them if they aren't going to actually stick with them.

NECA needs to release it already though as this dry spell of Godzilla stuff is getting annoying. All Bandai is doing right now is announcing repaints. It seems like NECA is currently doing the same thing.
