Walker Barriers – The Walking Dead Building Set

Posted on April 21, 2015 at 2:29 pm by Joe Moore under Horror Toy News

McFarlane continues their successful line of Walking Dead Building Sets  with the Walker Barriers. Based on constructs found in The Walking Dead TV Series, these Walker Barriers are meant to be companion pieces to the Prison set released last year. This 70 piece set includes pieces to create two spiked Walker Barriers and three Walker miniature figures. Two of the Walker feature spaces to impale them onto the barriers. These will be available in May at Toys “R” Us and Walmart.

Looks cool but I want to see this in-hand.

I'm not a Walking Dead fan, nor am I really a fan of McFarlane as a company, but I have to admit, these sets look pretty cool. It's nice to see so much detail put into a building block set. So much so that, when finished, they don't at all look like a set you put together from much smaller pieces.

Halo is out of the question, and I'm not sure about Assasin's Creed, but what other properties could they do sets for?

I am really hoping they look as good as this in person. I would eat every one of these up. Prices seem pretty reasonable as well.

As for other properties, I'd be shocked if they didn't do some sports ones. Would be a great way to get a stadium/arena/rink diorama and whole teams without spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars.

Oh man, I'm scared at the amount of cash I'd end up spending on those blind bags.

According to MTV (updating the story now) the blind bags will indicate whether you're getting a human or a walker.

    Good ol sigh of relief.

Also when it says Lego style, does it also mean compatible? Just trying to gauge scale in the pictures.

Yeah, compatible with LEGO, MEGA Blok and Kre-O.

Awesome, thanks! The full sized prison tower pic looks to be about how big they'd be then.

I'm hoping they make Dale's RV with a mini figure of him sitting on an umbrella'd lawn chair on top. Total must buy.

There are a ton of scenes and such I think would be great in this style. The RV would probably #1, with Hershel's Farm, Woodbury Gate/Buldings, Prison interior, etc. also highly desirable.

while they seem neat, i dont think i like the concept, the major atraction of lego is the construction of structures using simple geometric blocks, this with its realistic design and reliance on walls and floors, seem to be more like a puzzle, and im guessing it will not be too much fun to build a grey wall or haedwood floor.

I think the comparisons to lego are a catch to hook standard retail stores like walmart etc... I know walmart has the walking dead toys but if it was just a diorama it may not sell as well and retailers might be more inclined to pass on carrying it. Not that I don't think using that concept is dumb as hell, it sells toys.

I don't think I'll be buying these. They look great, and they are definitely a more inexpensive way of getting good dioramas than the action figures are. I'm too deep into collecting the current figures however.

My sister-in-law is already jumping for joy at the idea of having that Daryl set on her desk at work, though.

Hmmm, I'm interested in seeing the blind pack figures. I hope they have some sort of articulation. The Governor and Daryl in the sets look immobile.

I was super excited thinking these were for 5'' scale figures as I might be able to make it work for my 6'' figures.. but sadly not the case, however I maybe able to modify the sets and make upscaled versions to fit ML figures... just might be costly.

Yeah, my initial thought was that they were for the 5" figures as well.

    No such luck.

I think this is a superb idea. I had wondered before whether Character Options could have done something like this for their 3.75" Doctor Who range combining it with their 'lego-esque' line.

Also thought this was for the 5" figures. What scale are they then?

The zombies and Darryl do seem to have articulated shoulders and waists.

No sizes were revealed yet. Though, since they are compatible with existing building blocks, my guess is 2" - 2.5" tall for the figures. Can't imagine they'll be much taller if they plan on selling individual blind bagged figures for $3 each.

    LOL, yeah- I am lazy.

These look good, don't get me wrong... But McFarlane protos always look awesome, gotta wait to see them in person. They might be wall-eyed and full of slop.

Honestly, I've never been a Lego collector but what they are doing is striking all of the chords with me. I love the realism in the final product.

Yeah, I'm really interested in these specifically for diorama usages. I'll be glad to know what relative scale these end up being. They look like they could be close to 1:24, which would rock my world.

Update on McFarlane Walking Dead Building Block Sets - The Toyark - News

  25. trebleshot's Avatar trebleshot says

Wow, those look tiny. They remind me more of Nanoblocks than Lego (especially NB's "famous buildings" sets).

Not for me, I think. I really don't like the static poses, especially after seeing first-hand what Mega Bloks has been able to do with their COD figures. Also, these WD sets give me more of a model kit vibe than Lego, et al.
