New DC Collectibles Gods and Monsters Figures

Posted on April 16, 2015 at 5:58 pm by Tony_Bacala under DC Toy News

DC Entertainment rolled out new info on their upcoming Gods and Monsters direct to video animated film today, showing off an alternate universe version of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman.  In the below video, animation lord Bruce Timm explains the process and reasoning behind the new adventure, which will also include a daily digital only comic explaining the backstory of these new versions of the heroes.

Near the end, we get our first glimpse at action figures from DC Collectibles which are said to be 6 inch, and seem to have some articulation similar to the recent Batman Animated figures as opposed to the larger but less articulated offerings we’ve been getting for the animated films so far.  Check out the video below and screen caps after the break!

Looks like some Batman Animated articulation in there. 6 inch, not 7.

    Hmm, interesting.

Releasing these as if they are part of the BTAS collection would make sense. This movie marks Bruce Timm's return to DC animated features, along with his art style. If the movie is any good, I may buy Batman and Wonder Woman.

Me either! Not at all. I wish they'd make some Under the Red Hood figures. Atleast we're getting Phantasm anyway.

PHANTASM! Yeah these don't look very appealing, but Phantasm! I'm so excited for that pack and it better come out by October as the websites claim. Still easily my favorite animated Batman movie on merit of original story alone. As enjoyable as Under the Red Hood and Dark Knight Returns were they were both adaptations of comics that many were familiar with.

These character designs seem hardly recognizable. Maybe they'll mean more once we know the back story. Is it supposed to be set in the distant future or an alternate universe or something like that? Let's find out. Here's a blurb from DC movie wiki:

    Quote:
Journey to a divergent reality where the Justice League protects the planet — but answers to no one but themselves. Employing methods of intimidation and fear, this Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman deal brute force in the name of justice. In this alternate universe, Superman was not raised by the Kents in Smallville, the Caped Crusader is not Bruce Wayne, and Wonder Woman is not an Amazon warrior of Themyscira. When a group of famed scientists experience untimely "accidents," a government task force follows the trail of clues to the Justice League - but is there a more powerful player operating from the shadows? It's a high stakes game of intrigue, mystery and action that asks the question: How do you serve justice to those above the law?
    Sounds topical.

Man-Bat - Kirk Langstrom - in this universe is a vampire Batman. That's all I needed to know before deciding it would be worth watching.

Pass. The movie looks awful. Plus, if they wanted to do another evil counterparts movie, they should have just done a CSA movie.

    They've done that already.

I usually buy these on the day of release but I'm kind of not feeling this one. I think I'll watch it online first and then decide if I'll get it.

The Kirk Langstrom/Vampire Batman voiced my Dexter himself is pretty awesome though.

No they haven't. They did a movie with the JL fighting the CSA. This movie is just on a straight up evil Justice League. I would rather have a movie that is just a straight up CSA movie.

I'm just glad we're getting an original story rather than another comic adaptation.

If I'm being honest, Bruce Timm and a vampiric Batman are the main reasons I'm interested in this. I don't care about Zod's son, or Wonder Woman (who isn't Diana) being Orion's wife.

I'm dying for a Justice League Beyond movie, personally. That may be one of my favorite comics of all time, certainly in regards to team books, and Terry is my favorite Batman, so I'd kill to see that timeline revisited.

Hell, if they wanted to be lazy again, just adapt the Justice Lords arc from the JLB comic. That could be an amazing movie.

The premise is similar to Justice Lords. Shouldn't Superman be Super-hombre or something because of the Mexican bit? Wonder Woman looks like a Fury, Big Barda? Batman's costume reminds me Japanese heroes for some reason.

My thought as well. This is being pushed out for some reason. That alone makes me leery. It doesn't help that the figures are gloomy and boring. Pass.

I'm a little disappointed that Batman doesn't seem to have the Batman Beyond-like wings which pop out under his arms when he glides. I would've preferred that over the alternate head.
