Masters of the Universe Classics is hitting end of line soon, but there are still some pretty solid figures dropping. I personally haven’t been collecting the line front to back, but I do grab a piece here and there. Back at SDCC 2014, we saw Snake Armor He-Man and Battle Armor King Hsss, and I immediately went into WANT mode. These guys dropped last month, and I picked one up on eBay for near retail, thank goodness – these things can spike quick if they’re hot. Anyway, we’ve run He-Man and King Hsss through the motions and done up over 75 images of them in action after the break, read on to check them out!
Masters of the Universe Classics Snake Armor He-Man and Battle Armor King Hssss
Pros
Fantastic Sculpts
Paint is top notch on both, particularly on He-Man
Build Quality is solid
Cons
Arms don’t allow straight up sword pose, hands also hinder that with lack of wrist joint.
Overall
Again, I am not a hardcore MOTUC guy, but I do appreciate them when they are good. I had the entire 200x line from Mattel when it was on shelves, since sold. I like when classic characters get upgraded into modern interpretations, IF they don’t cheapen them. This is an “alt costume” for He-Man, even in the 200x line, but for me who just wants a little MOTU rep on the shelves mixed in, this is a perfect modern He-Man. He’s got a little more covered, which makes sense since this universe isn’t cave man times. But he’s He-Man, so he doesn’t give a F and still rocks an arm and a leg out. Colors are right, sword is different from OG but still cool looking. It FEELS like a He-Man, just a bit more modern, and I’m down with that.
As for the toy itself, it’s really well done. Both are. I’m not speaking in relation to other MOTUC figures, it may be above/below expectations related to them, can’t say. But, I’ve been handling figures from multiple companies and lines over the last couple years, and I have to say the Mattel figures can take a pounding. Plastic qulaity is great, joints all move repeatedly well. They don’t need to be coddled, they don’t feel like they’ll snap or break. Paint is also superbly done, a mix of brights on top of weathering, not a lot of overspray or missed marks. Overall, very happy with these figs, so if you’re thinking about it, grab em.
These are sold out at MattyCollector, but you can pick em up on eBay here if you’re interested.
Check some key shots below, and the full set after that!

Not a regular thing here, but really dig this version of He-Man so I picked up the set.
Nip slip He-Man! Great pics. Figure looks good as well.
I didn't realize this line was winding down, but I guess it makes sense because Mattel hasn't been doing very well the last couple of years. MOTUC was one of those lines I would definitely collect if money was not an issue. I can't collect everything and I have to draw a line somewhere, but these He-Man figures always looked great and took me back to my childhood. MOTUC lasted longer than any of Matty's other Subscriptions, but the whole concept is basically flawed IMO. Nobody else expects their customers to plop down big bucks so far in advance for mystery products. Matty held out way too long to release fan-demanded characters to get people to Sub every year, but you lose interest when you never get the characters you want. The worst part is that Matty blamed their customers and questioned their fandom when the Subs weren't selling. At least that's how it always seemed with the DCUC and Ghostbusters subs. Still, the 2 MOTUC figures I do have (He-Man & Skeletor) are fantastic. It's too bad the line is ending, but at least it looks like it's going out in style because these two figures look really nice.
I'm a sucker for all things 200x.
Love the figure, superb sculpt work on He-Man. Not sure if I wanna keep King Hssss or not, though.
