Square Enix‘s Play Arts Kai Varaint line has been going strong now, with offerings for DC, Marvel, Star Wars, Final Fantasy and more available now or coming soon. The line features their unique take on the characters, being influenced by the original designs but taking them in a completely new direction. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it doesn’t. Some wind up cool, others just a bit weird. I am personally grabbing random ones here and there, we shot the Flash a while back. Recently I grabbed Superman which has been out for a while now. So to really keep with this category’s theme, here is a Random Photo Shoot of Play Arts Kai Variant Superman!
Square Enix Play Arts Kai Variant Superman
Cool armored look
2 capes, both with articulation
Comic font like “Krash” text piece
Great metallic paint, paint overall
Faces are weird.
Sculpted cape flares out a bit for static poses
For what it is, it’s a high quality piece. Square continues to improve on it’s QC issues, all joints and pegs moved as intended with no breaks or potential breaks. The fabric cape is cool, has a wire frame around the edges allowing for posing in almost any direction. Shame it’s so color mismatched. The sculpted cape is also well done, splitting in the back and using jointed pegs to move directions. If the face wasn’t so slender and artistically inspired, It would be a perfect “alt-verse” Superman. I like the armored look of these guys.
