NECA Cracked Tusk Predator Cardback

Posted on January 27, 2015 at 12:07 pm by Joe Moore under Aliens and Predator Toy News

NECA has posted a pic showing the cardback for their upcoming Cracked Tusk Predator. This is our first look at the packaging, and you can also get the backstory to the character. The figure is part of Predator Series 13, and was originally due out in March along with Renegade Predator and Scavenger Predator. It looks like that release date may have moved up a bit.

Check out the pic after the jump.

Wow. I had Kenner version of 2 of those and a repaint of the other.

Neca Preds are hard to quit...

Wow...this will probably be the first series since 7 I don't get the entire wave of. Only one I'd be interested in is Renegade Predator. The other two are just straight repaints from series 10.

(Granted, I realize nearly ALL NECA Predator figures are 90% repaints but a new head or something would be nice).

Scavage is supposed to be a normal predator not one of those "super" predators and both cracked tusk and renegade are supposed to have removeable masks.....and renegade is supposed to have brown armor and his skin tone is supposed to be yellow NOT green with gun metal armor. Fail for this entire wave NECA......epic fail.

I don't know if you're seriously bitching about this or being excessively sarcastic. Each figure is accurate. Only the two-pack Renegade was khaki/yellowish with brown armor, the later individual release was green with greyish-purple armor. You can't definitively say that Scavage is supposed to be regular and not "super" since it's based on a toy from the '90s which lacks the higher sculpting of now, plus they already made Nightstorm a "super" predator so of course this guy is now.
They can't do removable masks for everybody, with the exceptions of the Nightstorm, Ahab, and Viper whose masks are decidedly unique and allow for face-attachment. If they made removable masks for regular predators then the face would be shrunken down and flattened or the mask would be over-sized and silly. Even in the movie they had to make separate heads for Kevin Peter Hall to wear because the mask in concept squishes onto the face too much for anybody to put it on the mandible face without breaking those.

Technically Scavage's wrist-blades are different and he doesn't have the gut-armor, and Cracked Tusk has a different plasma caster than Lava did. I would have preferred though if Cracked Tusk had a new head as opposed to using Lava's mask again, that way we could see that one of his mandible/tusks is broken.

Maybe give two heads then? I can see the point on scavage but I don't even see a Cracked tusk on cracked tusk? Also I think the old cracked tusk had a mask that showed the broken tusk similar to night storm scavage. Mainly my gripe is the renegade.....he was my fave pred back in the Kenner days and I'm just sad to see him redone so innacurately.

Yeah Cracked tusk did used to have a mask that showed his bottom mandibles similar to how Nightstorm and Scavage do now, I would have just opted for a new and different head.
The original Renegade colors would have been preferred I think, but maybe they didn't want to do another predator with blue since he was originally khaki/yellow on the front but had a smoky blue on his back. They opted for the later individual release which was khaki/green on front and totally green on back.
Neither of these images are mine, so thanks to figurerealm for having that image available.

Well guess I'm on the hunt for a lost pred for that green head for sn unmasked head. I had forgotten about the renegade recolor. Still I'm like you would preferred a 1st release.

I'd be lying if I said I don't want the version we're getting. His weapons, particularly the gun, look cool. Plus green is a favorite color, so even if it weren't Renegade I'd still be interested due to the color scheme alone. Scavage is the only one from this set I'll most likely pass on. I freaking love Nightstorm, so the (in my opinion) weaker paint scheme and no new accessories beyond different wrist-blades means Scavage is not necessary for me.

I wish they'd improve the hips and stability of the super predator body. I'm scared to move my berserker and I wish they would make the feet more stable on that mold. My nightstorm keeps falling over. And despite my misgiving some I'll probably buy these cause of the fondness I have for the old Kenner preds

I had Nightstorm dive a couple of times, bought NECA's bases and now he doesn't fall. It took some work to get the peg all the way up his foot, but it works and he stands triumphant next to his Kenner brethren.

Yeah, that's being super picky about those predators, obviously they are going to they to reuse as many parts as they can.

Honestly, I have my cracked tusk and he looks close enough for me.

I'm with En Sabah Nerd. I like NECA's package of features and design elements overall, although that pred pistol seems absurdly large for the scale. Quality is NOT an issue. I look forward to cherry-picking previous figures to go with my new (secondary market) Jungle Classic...

For what they charge for these I'm gonna be picky. Plus every time YA open one its a crapshoot of which joint will break or don't it. If the QC was solid I might cut some slack buuuuuuttttttt.......

I was always really glad these Predator figures were only $18 a piece, it felt like I was getting much more than an $18 value. So while I am a tad upset at the price increase to $21(according to bbts), it's not that big of a deal.
@Skoob: Is it a pistol? I wondered that when I used to look at the original Kenner toy. It's obviously some kind of gun, but when you look at how big it is in the pictures I posted above it's almost as big as his arm. I imagine that it's essentially a more powerful plasma caster that tests the user's skill more than the auto-aiming shoulder-mounted variety. I find the overall look of the gun is very reminiscent of the hand-held guns from the first AvP comic, which were more pistol sized, and this raises my hopes that we'll get a Broken Tusk/Dachande figure later down the line.

Now there's a blast from the past. I LOVED that miniseries. You're right: I remember exactly what you're talking about. And it seems to me that some of the plasmacasters depicted in the 2004 AVP movie were likewise humungous.

I sure hope Predator 4 (upcoming sequel) doesn't stink.

It's supposed to be a direct sequel to PREDATORS which was freakin awesome....I hope we get a Royce figure and the girl too. That gun with renny is supposed to be the equivalent to an smg....where it can be fired easily as a handheld or rifle type.

I don't know any concrete details about Predator 4 besides the fact that when Fox first announced it they forgot to say it was a sequel. For about one whole day people were all "WTF! How dare they remake Predator!" and I was in agreement, and then director Shane Black was all "No, it's a sequel" so I was able to breathe easy again. I like all 3 films, here's hoping I'll be able to like the fourth.
Regarding Renegade's gun, it could technically be any number of things all rolled into one. It could have automatic fire, semi-automatic with more powerful shots, cannon-like explosive effects, it could even have a flamethrower. There isn't much sense to guessing what it does, as long as it looks good with the toy.

I actually still have all my kenner predator figures.... Scavage was green, more of a lighter olive drab color with blue mouth, renagade was more of a traditional skin color with the brownish bronze armor. i always considered him to look more like the movie version back then. all original kenner predators had removeable masks. cracked tusk did have a cracked tusk but also his mask was removable.

If anybody would like pics of the originals let me know.

I think they teased on Twitter that they might get to the original brown armored Renegade if they redo the old two pack, but the Renegade we're getting is accurate to his later individual release. I was hoping Cracked Tusk would have not had his mask so we could actually see his defining trait, but oh well I still intend to get it.

well here's what i been wondering since getting into this line of figures. the masked predators that have the bigger sized helmets, are those helmets removeable?

The only Predators NECA has made that feature removable masks are Nightstorm Predator, Ahab Predator, and Viper Predator. Since the upcoming Scavage Predator is just a repaint of Nightstorm he will also have the removable mask. It's been discussed before that because in the movies they had to make different heads for masked and unmasked due to masks not fitting over the faces, the toys can't normally have removable masks without betraying the look. They could include swap-off heads, but I guess it's effort they don't want to take which is fine by me in the end.

thats sounds understandable. thanks for the info brotha !! i want a lost predator without the helmet, but they are pricey. i did see the one with the helmet for less but now that i know his helmet WONT come off, i might hold off on him all together.
