Star Wars Black Series 6 Inch Yoda Gallery

Posted on January 2, 2015 at 1:35 pm by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Star Wars Toy News

Star Wars Black Series Wave 6 galleries continue today with Jedi Master Yoda! Yoda is a little guy on screen and in toy form; that trend continues here in Black Series 6 inch. The line is at the higher end price-wise for mass retail collecting, targeting collectors who remember the days when 3.75 figures were under 5 bucks (and cheaper than that too). So, to have Yoda by himself in a big box priced at $20 bucks is a hard pill to swallow. We took our medicine though so let’s take a look at him after the break courtesy of site sponsor Entertainment Earth!

Star Wars Black Series 6 Inch Yoda

Pros
Great likeness to OT movie Yoda
Removable cloak
Snake accessory like original toy
Cane and neck pouch accessory nice touch
Lightsaber!

Cons
No articulated knees
Price

Overall
I am happy with Yoda in this 6 inch scale. He’s a welcome addition to the shelves which are heavily OT themed for me. The only negative for me is price. He looks so tiny in that big box. BUT, IMO, I’d still rather have him like this than a 4th tier guy or prequel characters, at this point in the line anyway. When you move past that, he’s rather well done. Face sculpt captures the OT look. The removable cloth cloak is nice, revealing the brown get up that my 3.75 one in the 80s wound up looking like immediately. The accessories are nice, a mix of movie and toy legacy. The arms can be bent with a double jointed elbow which allows for a hunched over cane pose that is perfect. Swivel thighs allow for some slight foot positioning under the cloak. You would think there isn’t much new to do with Yoda, but Hasbro figured a way to spice it up even if it isn’t apparent on first glance. Grab him if you can take the little guy in a big box situation!

I saw this at a Walgreens, of course the only one they didn't have from the wave was the one I was looking for (TIE pilot), but I will say this guy looked neat. I passed since I only get OT right now, but I like to think that maybe someone who actually really wanted this might of found it there where I left it. Now lets get ready for for Hasbro to redo it again in red, blue, and yellow. Why stop there, do a mucky sand sprayed version of the regular one from that part where they were trooping through the sand storm. Seriously though I don't want these guys to become regular in the series just with different decos until maybe later in the line.

The Clone Sergeant has been a tough pass for me lately.

I've convinced myself that until Hasbro gives us 6" figures of Quinlan Vos, Aayla Secura, or heck, even Ahsoka (even though we'll most likely never see any of them in 6" form), I don't have any need for any Clones in my collection. However, they look good, and I've enjoyed this line a lot so far (well, when I can actually find them ) so leaving him on the shelf/pegs has been difficult.

I feel like any non-movie character is going to be a while off from now, especially with a new movie coming out this year and they only have like 6 waves since the line started July-ish 2013 so I would imagine we'll get like 4 or maybe 5 waves this year considering repack waves and there's a chance those waves will become Episode VII preview figures ahead of the movie. C'mon Hasbro you got like 4 waves to give us Lando and Mace Windu and not even a full 4 waves since we already know like what 2 of these upcoming waves will be.

Oh, yeah, I'm definitely not holding my breath for any new EU characters or any characters from the Clone Wars animated series. While the Shadow Squadron set was a nice EU surprise, it was most likely a one-time occurrence.

Like you pointed out, there are so many important charcters from the movies who still need figures, and the upcoming Episode VII is going to introduce SOOO many new characters as well.
And even though Aayla had brief appearances in Episodes II and III, there are plenty of other Jedi who are featured more prominently in the movies who I would imagine would get figures first.

Also, now that the previous EU has been basically eradicated to make way for the new Disney-approved EU, and because Disney has largely shown nothing but animosity towards the Clone Wars, those characters have an even smaller chance of ever being made. But, oh well... maybe if the Black series continues well into the new Trilogy, maybe Hasbro will give us a wave of currently out-of-continuity characters. Lol, I'm not gonna get my hopes up though.

I would like to see a Durge in 6" scale, but it's probably not gonna happen. I find it upsetting to a degree that so much is now officially non-canonical, I always kind of disregarded the post-ROTJ stuff in preparation that one day they might make a new movie which would erase all of that but all I'm gonna miss from the post-ROTJ stuff is Thrawn and Boba Fett's ongoing stuff (though they could still have Boba Fett return from that less than favorable "death" they gave him). What I will miss being for sure canon is Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars and some of what happened in Filoni's too, but really Genndy's version was the perfect bridge from AOTC to ROTS. I still think KOTOR is arguably canon unless the new movies somehow directly counter it, but what reason could the new movies have to go thousands of years before even the prequel trilogy to counter anything from KOTOR? Another thing, George Lucas signed off on saying that The Force Unleashed was the official and canon bridge between ROTS and ANH story, he was also directly involved with both Clone Wars shows (more so with the original). I would say unless anything in the new movies directly contradicts The Force Unleashed or the original Clone Wars, those could be argued as still canon. I still don't know how to factor Filoni's show though, even though I liked it a decent amount, the concept of Anakin having a padawan at all felt non-canonical itself since the movies make it sound like only a master can train a padawan but in ROTS he bitches about not being a master.

I've ranted too much already. General point: I'd like to see some EU/non-canonical/debatable canon characters get 6" toys but not until the movies get fair treatment first.

Yeah, when I saw Yoda at Walgreens I was a little upset about the deal of his size yet still full price. As someone has said on the ark before though, we don't have to pay more for the big guys like Chewie so there's a small sliver of comfort in the price being flat for all figures. Great pics (especially that last one), but I didn't know Yoda had so much junk in his trunk.

Yeah, I think that's the key. I personally didn't mind it too much, but I know folks were talking about that a lot so I figured I'd address it. Based on how the waves and lines work with distribution, it's either what they did, or figure a way to make it a two pack or something with a base/dio etc. Which would cut into Chewie like costs. No win. Yoda's small, I'll deal with it.

And thanks on the pic props. I like how this round came out.

Um... Maybe because he has an itchy trigger finger and didn't want to risk shooting the photographer?

Or, I just shoved it in there and didn't pay attention to the details?

    It can be done tho...

I actually like how the Stormtroopers have their fingers in the safety position, it makes it easier to insert or remove the weapons. So yeah, you're right, TIE pilot is on the edge. He's five days to retirement and he'll make damned sure he gets there in one piece.

Damn straight, he's already been written up twice for dropping his weapon and blasting mouse droids.

Thanks! Unfortunately I had to use the Tie Advanced from Rebels, so if it's done wide angle rather than square, it won't be "vintage". I cheated a bit there, it's close enough blurred out like that.
