Black Series Prototype Armor Boba Fett Gallery

Posted on November 6, 2014 at 1:59 pm by Tony_Bacala under Random Photo Shoot, Star Wars Toy News

Walgreens jumped into the exclusives game a little bit ago with releases from McFarlane for Walking Dead and Halo. Hasbro was next with Marvel Legends Agent Venom. The Black Series was next up with a 6 inch Prototype Armor Boba Fett, rocking the now infamous white deco. This was announced during Comic Con 2014 where pre-orders went live. To the dismay of many, Walgreens decided to stock a small amount at each store before fulfilling those pre-orders. So while our fellow toy hunters were out grabbing Whobas, those that jumped in on day one had to sit and wait. Well, for me anyway, the wait is over. Everyone may be talking about Star Wars The Force Awakens (Episode VII) but read on to check some quick thoughts and over 25 shots of Prototype Armor Boba Fett!

Black Series Prototype Armor Boba Fett

Pros
Great mold
Plastic quality is up to par
Slight off-white tones on different parts create depth
Great repaint for a limited exclusive

Cons
Distribution and Pre-Order fulfillment

Overall
Overall a great repaint of a great figure. I was never a big Star Wars toys collector prior to 6 inch black series, and never had any version of the Prototype Armor. Getting a hold of this was a treat, an unnecessary but desired treat. I think it’s a great use as an exclusive, not necessary if you stick to core characters, but if you get one, acts as awesome filler. The figure is actually off-white compared with the Stormtroopers, and actually has several tones of off-white on the figure, so he isn’t just a big white blob. Rumor has it that Walgreens ordered another round, so he should be easier to find in store soon. Keep your eyes peeled, or, if you’re lazy like I am, feel free to check eBay.

Check some key shots here, with the rest below after that!

For what was supposed to be a Walgreens exclusive he sure feels like an Ebay exclusive now. Maybe Walgreens should never have been the store to give this exclusive to, They barely dabbled in toys before and it seems that dumping a highly-demanded exclusive figure as their first break in to the field has performed horribly. The people I see on Ebay who have six or more to sell is absurd, in the end Walgreens is almost paying those people to buy this toy up.

Hey what display stand is that, I would want some for my Boba and Voyager Tfs. I got both Boba's at TF Con in Chicago a weekend ago.

Tamashii Stage. This one came with a SH Figuarts DBZ figure, but you can get them solo too.

Agreed. When half the fandom had multiples and I was still waiting on pre-orders, I called and they suggested I cancel and grab them in person. I said ok then, FU and cancelled. My buddy locally got his and sold me one at cost.

To them, it hasn't performed horribly, they just know it's selling out like hotcakes! I'm guessing they don't care about the difference between collectors and scalpers, anyways. I will say this for them though: they've had four exclusives: White Boba Fett, Agent Venom, King's Hand Tyrion, and some Walking Dead figures no one cares about, and I've seen all of them in stores minus Boba. I think for their first real dip in the exclusive figure pool, they haven't done too bad.

I thought I read on one of the forums that Walgreen's is still planning to restock Proto Fett's through the holidays, and that stores are now getting cases of 8 of the Fett figures now (as opposed to a mix of Wave 5 characters and Fett). There's always the random post from someone claiming that their store is swimming in exclusives as well, so maybe just certain areas are SOL?
Due to the sheer number of Walgreen's stores in my area, I was able to get 2 of every wave 5 figure (except for Luke, who never seemed to pop up anywhere) along with 2 Fett's pretty easily early on. It seems like folks that were waiting on their pre-orders ended up coming up short though, so I'd agree that at least for online orders, Walgreens dropped the ball. Otherwise, calling around and having stores hold figures for me to pick up in person worked out great.

Fair point, I'm just pissy because this is the one I really want.

Like all 4 figures were proto-Fetts? I've been waiting for 'em to do it like they did with Agent Venom or Tyrion, a bunch of the exclusive and only some of the normal figures.

I agree, overall pretty good, and if they get round two out with full cases of just boba, then that's cool.

    BUT...

You can't take pre orders online for months and then ship to brick and mortar first, skipping your online orders until more arrive. The point of online pre orders is guaranteeing firsties. If it was simultaneous and they start showing up a week or two after first sighting at retail, fine. But this was almost two months. Very frustrating.

It's funny, I just got home because the website said one of my local stores had him, and after talking to the manager I got first dibs on a fresh case. Also picked up Vader to avoid dealing with that in the future. It was a case of 8 with 3 Fetts, 2 Vaders, and one Sandtrooper, Luke, and Chewbacca. Earlier I was bitching about this guy's distribution, now I have one.

Nahh, I got one, that's what I used in the pictures for the story . I appreciate the offer tho.

I was just venting about the handling of their early shipments. Pre orders first. In order received. Then brick and mortar. Please, thanks, kbye.

That would be insulting to how rare and hard to find it currently is. If it eventually becomes super common and shelf-filling then fine, but as of now that'd be mean to people who still want one but somebody instead bought more than one just to paint over it.

I'm planning to buy a 3rd one (previously bought 1 for myself and 1 for my brother) and paint it to match the Shadow Squadron set. Guess I'm just a mean customizer then. lol

Cool, I may actually go buy some more myself, I keep having to mess up my DBZ shelf every time I want to shoot something with a stand.

As for the pics, yeah, anything that gets filed under "Random Photo Shoot" or labeled "Toyark's .... Gallery" in the forum is shot by us, Joe, DESTRO or myself.
