Mattel has been producing Disney Princess dolls for quite some time now, as they covered aisles in Toy “R” Us, Target, Walmart and more. More importantly, these dolls have a huge presence inside of Disney’s Parks and Disney Stores. Now, IGN reports that Disney has dropped Mattel in favor of a new deal with Hasbro. Here’s a snippet:
“We are delighted to have been selected by Disney Consumer Products to develop dolls for the Disney Princess and Frozen franchises,” said Hasbro President & CEO Brian Goldner.
“Our strategic thought leadership and innovation has led to the steady growth of our girls business over the past several years demonstrating that we have a true understanding of girls globally and how today’s girls want to play. The entire Hasbro team is looking forward to providing consumers with inventive new play experiences based on the beloved Disney Princess and Frozen characters and stories.”
New Disney Princess Dolls from Hasbro should begin hitting stores in 2016. You can read the original report Here.
This is a huge coup. Mattel has done Disney Princesses for years!
Mattel Frozen Out Of Disney Princess Toy Deal - IGN
Mattel just lost a big brand.
The Mighty Mattel is losing more and more. There goes being #2 Toy Maker.
Marvel, Disney Princesses, and Star wars are all under the same toy roof. Maybe Disney is consolidating everything under Hasbro for an eventual purchase
3.75 Disney Universe
Lets do this!
Seeing as how Mattel made the girl from Brave look like a standard generic princess, GOOD!!!
I wonder if it has anything to do with Disney not getting enough Frozen stock/merch? Seems like the parks were struggling to keep up and they just weren't getting enough stuff out there for the rabid fans to purchase
I hope this means Disney is about to acquire Hasbro. I would love Marvel ROM and the Micronauts to be under one roof.
Yes! I made front page! Time to do the Front Page Dance!

So this means we get Disney Princess Slave Leia dolls right??? :-P
Breaking news: Mattel says it was the consumers fault....
I hope this opens the eyes of the lazy people in charge.
I just saw a whole wall full of Cars/Planes figures at TRU and was wondering how long it will sit there before they put it on sale...
Wow, so right now Mattel only has DC until a few years…….yes, it adds credence that Disney wants a tighter relationship with Hasbro (possible buy out? Or does Disney want Hasbro producing merchandise for all their properties?)
Never mind, it's right now just the Princess' I think

Wait, so this means we can expect to see MLP Disney Princess toys and Disney Princess Transformers.
Mattel is fine.
Mattel won't lose DC, despite most of their offerings being horrendous(though Multiverse is great).
Its all those DC hotwheels, all those little kid DC figures.
It would have to be something huge to make them lose it and even then,
Hasbro is the only other company that could handle a full DC license but DC/WB isn't going to want the same manufacturer as Disney/Marvel
Disney/Marvel certainly won't want Hasbro on DC either.
But with buying Marvel in 2009, Lucasfilm in 2012, both multi-BILLION dollar deals, I don't see Disney buying Hasbro anytime soon. Again, it's better business to continue licensing and being paid for toys than make them (as Marvel did). Further, I really don't see much in Hasbro's property catalog that would drastically improve Disney's catalog enough to justify that kind of purchase.
Toy Biz hasn't existed since 2008 (after briefly changing their name to "Marvel Toys" after Hasbro was given the Marvel master license). I'm surprised to see a collector not be familiar with that.

*A company that was a subsidiary of Marvel Comics since 1993 BTW. So theoretically is now owned by Disney.
