LEGO has taken the top spot as the Worlds #1 Toy Maker! News from LEGO.com has indeed confirmed that Global LEGO sales up 15% percent in first half of 2014 pulling in just over $2 billion! A significant contributor to sales growth in the first half of 2014 was The LEGO Movie product line which launched in conjunction with the release of The LEGO Movie feature film in early 2014. In the Asian region, growth in LEGO sales varied from market to market. China saw the most significant growth in consumer sales in the region by more than 50%. This supports the LEGO Group’s ambitions to further globalize the company and make Asia a significant contributor to future growth.
While LEGO flourishes, Mattel, the creator of Barbies, Hot Wheels and more, has struggled. In July the company announced Barbie sales declined 15 percent, and sales of their Fisher-Price brand fell 17 percent. In February Mattel purchased direct LEGO competitor MEGA BLOKS for $460 million, no doubt in an effort to keep up with LEGO’s growth.

Curious if this will carry over to the holiday season as well. LEGO has been on fire the last year or so. I'm not a brick guy at all, and some of the TMNT sets have had me considering jumping in at times.
I'm considering the Batman Tumbler, that would be my full on jump in point.
I don't doubt that a lot of Lego's success this year came from the movie, but that doesn't diminish the line's quality.
Also: hey Mattel, if you put some competent people in charge of making DC toys, you might not be struggling so much. DC Direct, a company that was pretty much a joke a few years ago, is running circles around Mattel and it doesn't look like it'll let up with the BTAS figures coming soon.
While Lego might not give me everything I want because of the company stance on certain things I'm still going to say congrats.
Pick up any other building block line and it's not hard to feel like Lego is just running circles around everyone else. You just don't get that nice snap together and stay together with other brands.
Consistency and quality control is way up there as well. I honestly can't recall ever getting a mini-figure or set that felt like it quality control issues or having to worry about the fit from swapping parts.
Now if they could just get superhero mini-figures out faster without having to buy big sets and if they would change their mind on military stuff it would be even better. But for what they do they feel a step above other toy companies right now.
Sorry, I'm just being silly.
That's good to hear I loved Lego's as a kid, so is good to hear kids still like it, makes them think and be creative, not to mention fun.
this isn't a surprise. Mattel is in the middle of a downward spiral of their own making. Lego just keeps doing what they do best.
