For a few years now, toy companies (especially Hasbro) has seen rising competition from fan created toys and figures. The ever growing access to 3D printing has completely changed the game and Shapeways has been one of the most recognizable names in the on-demand 3D printing market. Now, it seems we’re set to see a game changer as Hasbro and Shapeways are teaming up.
Through a new agreement, Hasbro will grant Shapeways and their customers to not only print, but sell some custom designs. It’s called Super Fan Art and they will kick things off with the My Little Pony franchise. This is going to debut at San Diego Comic-Con later this week. Right now, they are granting a limited number of artists the right to do this. They are also looking to expand this beyond Ponies to include other Hasbro properties in the future.
You can catch up on all the details at Shapeways. Check out Super Fan Art as well to browse through and purchase some of the, now, officially licensed designs. Let us know what you think by joining in on the discussion.
