One of the coolest surprises that came from Tamashii Nations this year was the reveal of the SH Figuarts Super Mario. The highly articulated figure looked to capture Nintendo‘s flagship character perfectly. Now we have a quick gallery of the figure. I’m just waiting to grab the add-on sets for a more extensive gallery, but couldn’t hold off on tearing this one open and taking at least a few photos. Read on to check out 34 photos and my thoughts on the figure. The figure comes courtesy of Toyark sponsor Entertainment Earth.

SH Figuarts Super Mario
Pros
- Super articulated
- Great likeness of Mario
- Can hold nearly and pose without a stand
- Good value for price
Cons
- Arms have some odd movement limitations
- Head cannot turn at all
- Add-on sets are practically required to get any use out of the figure
- Extra hands are sorely lacking
Overall
The SH Figuarts Super Mario is a really fantastic figure. It has a ton of articulation and can hit nearly every iconic Super Mario Bros or Smash Bros pose you want. The included Questions Mark Block, Mushroom and Gold Coin are a nice bonus. The arms have a bit of limitation in their movements though, preventing some outstretched poses, and the head sculpt an connection point prevents nearly any movement. The Super Mario is a very solid figure in terms of construction. The designers made some really smart choices with the legs and feet that allow it to be balance, quite easily, on a single foot or leg. It makes putting him in running or jumping poses, and displaying him that way, quite easy.
The base release lacks some important features, though. Without a figure stand, you cannot have Mario jumping. That is included with one of the add-ons, and you can see the snap on spot in Mario’s back. Also, the pieces needed to elevate the question mark block are included with the add-ons as well. Those are pretty much necessary for this figure. It’s a figure worth owning, for sure. But the add-on sets make it a more complete piece.

If SH made a Link figure based on his design from A Link to the Past, it would be my first serious SH consideration.
its based on link between worlds, and correct me if im wrong, but isnt he the same link with LTTP design?, now i just want a kid link fropm OOT/MM

EDIT: I just noticed another big problem. In Between Worlds, Link has some kind of bracelet on his left hand. If that detail is molded onto the arm, I can't work around it.
Great pics Joe. I may have to grab a set for myself.
Thanks, it's a great figure. I really hope we get more, especially a Luigi and a Bowser.
For those curious, the ones with Mario backdrops were taken in front of an iPad.
I finally got the diorama pieces. Was shooting the gallery last night when Mario's arm busted.
Going to try and grab another Mario or super glue it to get this up. Was having a ton of fun shooting those pieces too.

Great photos! I just picked up a Mario from Barnes & Noble today. Man it felt good to walk into a normal store and grab one off the shelf rather than buying online. Anyway, it's a fantastic figure with some really clever joints. Not sure if I want the accessory sets enough to drop another $20 each on them, but they are tempting...especially when I can walk right into B&N and buy them.
