About the Super7 and Funko ReAction Figure Series (Retro-Action): Each figure is stylized exactly as items from the “golden age” of action figures with approximately five points of articulation, accessories, and period-authentic blister card packaging. The ReAction line was introduced to great excitement at Comic-Con 2013 with action figures from the film Alien. If you were at Comic-Con, then you know the frenzy these figures caused! Their popularity led Funko and Super7 to expand the product line to many more great licenses.
First ReAction Photos - Predator, Terminator, Escape From NY, Rocketeer and More
Kudos for Funko and Super 7 for jumping in on this.
I'll definitely grab the 80s horror ones. Back to the future Marty for sure, hopefully we get a future Marty with the board and sneaks too. The rest I'll pick and choose as I see them in person. Great job tho, I think this will be a cool way to rep a property in limited space.
The Nightmare Before Christmas ones are surprisingly well done. I'll be grabbing a few of these. Like The Terminators, the Preds, The Horror, Goonies, the Plisskens.
Oh MAN!
That is the Snake Plisskin figure I have been wanting since I was 9!
Plus a Rocketeer?! I am so in on these!
I really hope they do John Carpenter's The Thing and Tron.
Shame the Predator ones arent a little more detailed (but then I guess that would defeat the object).
I will definitely get The Goonies figs though!
GAH! I want to see Legacy!!
Ugh, what a waste of a good license. These things are crap. I understood the Aliens retro figs bc they were of actual figures that never made it to retail but why waster your time and procure a license to make crappy figures that resemble 80's star wars figures with crappier detail? If you have the license and want to create 3.75" figures then do it right. Make a 201X version, not a 1980 version of the Terminator, Predator, and Escape from NY figures. I have ZERO positive feelings for this abomination of a line.
These are f*@king awesome!!! I spent many hours has a young buck day dreaming about owning these exact figures.
That's a lot more licenses than I was expecting to see this early. Hopefully that's a good sign of things to come. I might get a couple and display them on-card. The Ghostface figure will be tempting, and a must if they make anyone else from the Scream movies.
Now, CBS and Paramount... GIVE THEM THE LICENSING TO DO STAR TREK FIGURES... please? If not for this line, how about the Legacy line?.. or maybe both?
This SCREAMS MOC collection
^^^ I agree. Maybe these are not meant to be opened. I fear that loose re-action figures will not fit in well on a shelf of modern 3.75" figures.
I am sure to be getting about a dozen characters throughout the year because I love this scale. The only reason I cannot commit to more is because of the lack of detail and likeness.
The biggest let down so far is the Predator. I don't expect Neca quality but this re-action version is lacking something.
The skinny Arnold terminator body really bothers me as well.
Anyway enough bashing from me- Hooray for Super7 and Funko! I cant wait to get a shiny t-800 and a few more monsters.
I think there are a bunch of people here not getting the whole point of this line. Period.
I knew these were going to look like crap when they first announced them and I guess I was right. I know a lot of people will buy them for their retro style (realistically their cards) but lets be serious. we wonder why Hasbro and Mattel have been going backwards with details and articulation and it's because collectors have been buying the crap they've been putting out. we ask for better yet buy the garbage they put out. those Terminators look worse then the ones they put out a few years ago that peg warmed and then went on clearance for $1. the Aliens I completely understand (due to them actually being molded back then), these I never will...
I still might pick up a few of these depending on how they look in-hand for customs, but I gotta tell you I was hoping Predator wouldn't look so... cartoony so I could finally make a Sinestro Corps Predator in this scale (I'm aware there's a more fit one already but the cheapest I've seen it go for is $45). Anyway, at least these are far more reasonably priced than the Aliens figures they've already released.
This is probably one of the most divisive lines to be launched in quite some time
It reminds me of when Mattel's 3 3/4" JLU figures started to become so popular about 7 or 8 years ago. A lot of people loved them and saw them as a stylized homage to the 80's-era Super Powers figures, or even 90's Kenner figures. Meanwhile, those on the opposing side complained that they were overpriced and under-articulated garbage. And WOW, the insults got vicious on numerous toy forums because of those !!!
I'm sure that there are plenty of younger collectors who appreciate that vintage aesthetic as well. Just wanted to amend my initial claim
Personally, I think that Funko's idea of using the old Kenner Alien molds was a brilliant idea. The others mostly don't really appeal to me, but I can understand why a lot of older (um, my apologies, I mean experienced, lol) collectors would find this style appealing.
EDIT: I shouldn't assume that it's only older collectors who like these. Oops
I just wish that Funko had planned to simultaneously release these along with 3 3/4" figures in the style of the current Star Wars figures (like the 2010-2012 "Vintage" Collection, or the Black Series), since they plan to release 6" figures in that style anyways. That would have made these retro-styled figures a lot more palatable to those not receptive to the idea of that type of figure. But yeah, I realize that financially, that probably wasn't even an option for Funko, largely due to the time and money spent on sculpting accurate likenesses. Just wishful thinking on my part ...
Whew... but yeah, I will DEFINITELY be buying the Firefly figures when they are released. It's hard for any Firefly fan to deny the huge impact that the Star Wars franchise had on Joss Whedon when he created Firefly, so, personally, I think that Firefly figures created in the style of 70's-era Star Wars figures are a fitting tribute.
At the same time, I would prefer Firefly figures done in the style of modern 3 3/4" Star Wars figures. But, if both types were available, I'd definitely buy both styles.
"What if Kenner made (insert movie or TV show title here) figures back in the 70's & 80's? But we can answer that question by just looking at what Mego already did.
I don't really think there is a point to this line other than a quick cash grab. Hoping fans will get caught up in nostalgia & blow their money.
I gotta tell you,I love these figures. They are what I have wanted to see for years.
I would still love this scale in Neca style.
These figures look like what you expect Kenner to make 3 1/2 figures of if they had the rights.......can't wait
Why would anyone want toys that are made with the articulation of the 1970s?
maybe to complement a collection of actual '70s figures. Although there were quite a few from that time that could at least bend at the knee and did not look so plain.
