NECA has posted a press release detailing their new joint venture with Twentieth Century Fox. The new license grants them permission to release products based on the Planet of the Apes franchise. We’ve already seen a quick teaser earlier today. The new license agreement spans the original series of films as well as the new Dawn of the Planet of the Apes film coming later this year! Expect to see detailed 7″ figures as well as other licensed products.
The image attached has no relation to the announcement itself, I just love this scene. Read on for the full press release.

All-New Collectible Merchandise Available June 2014 Timed To The Highly-Anticipated Release of ‘DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES’
Hillside, NJ – January 21, 2014 – PLANET OF THE APES comes to life as National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA), entertainment conglomerate and global leader in licensed consumer goods, partners with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products for a new merchandise program based on the beloved franchise, which is set to include new products based on the upcoming film DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES as well as the classic movies. Available summer 2014, the program will include a wide assortment of collectible products designed to excite audiences of all ages such as action figures, giftware, apparel, accessories and more.
The new product lines will be made available to coincide with the release of DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, and will incorporate characters and elements from both the classic movies as well as the newest installment. Items will feature fan-favorite characters Caesar, Koba, Maurice, Cornelius and the rest of the world’s most well-known primates.
“NECA truly has the expertise in bringing to life a product line, translating movie characters into collectibles and tapping into the core audience’s needs,” said Roz Nowicki, executive vice president of global sales and retail at Fox Consumer Products. “Created to include products from the classic movie and the newest movie in the iconic franchise, this merchandise program has something to excite and engage fans and moviegoers around the world.”
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is the follow-up to RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, which opened theatrically during the summer of 2011 and grossed nearly half a billion dollars worldwide. A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species. The film hits theaters nationwide on July 11, 2014.

Planet of the Apes Figures Video Sneak Peek - The Toyark - News
Awesome! I have the Hiya toys one sitting in my PoL. Hopefully these are easier to get a hold of in person.
NECA needs to pace themselves. I want to see the Alien Nostromo suit figure done before this, but it isn't looking that way.
I dont know why NECA think its gonna achieved almost or same success as the predator line. Imo this will flop. I could not see whats cool about making these into figures. Prometheus characters design were better but it still flop.
Look for more reveals on Monday.

that figure is pretty stellar.
Granted, these probably won't outsell the Predator line, but what does that matter? It's not as if the two are in direct competition. NECA is still going to make a nice profit off of these.
Also, IMO, the Prometheus line flopped because the movie flopped.
Two More Planet of the Apes Figures Revealed - The Toyark - News
@ Frank Richards thanks for the respect. Well lets see, Prometheus wasnt the best movie but it was ok. Imo if I was asked to choose wether to get an engineer or an ape I'll go for the engineer. Rise of the Pota was a good film but Im not sweating for the figures. Its like buying an animal or zoo toys. If it was a cyborg kingkong or ape it would have been a different story. But youre right this film is probably due to have theyre own line and fans could have been waitng for these for a long time enough to support the line. And who knows NECA could be right!
As great as these figures look, I'm hesitant to buy into this line because I'm worried they won't (or can't) make Charlton Heston's Taylor as a figure. Do any insiders know if there might be likeness rights issues with his estate that would prevent NECA from being allowed to make a figure of him, similar to how Sigourney Weaver won't let them do a Ripley figure in their ALIEN lines? A classic Planet of the Apes line just won't feel complete without Taylor. His absence from wave 1 (despite being the star of the film) makes me wonder...

Okay, so the above pic confirms that a 2nd wave is coming. But again I ask... is there any chance of getting a Taylor figure in this line, or will it be all apes? Has NECA indicated if there's any likeness rights issue with Charlton Heston's estate that would prevent them from doing a figure based on his character?
Years ago when Sideshow was doing 1/6 scale Planet of the Apes figures, they were able to do Heston figures. So can NECA make one too?

Well in my opinion the line won't feel complete without at least one Taylor figure, so I'm reluctant to buy any of them if there's still doubt that they'll make one.
At least we're finally getting Ripley in the Alien line.

So the 2-pack comes with a "human catcher" accessory.

Too bad there's semmingly no human characters in this line.
