Aliens Minimates Finally Unveiled

Posted on January 17, 2014 at 8:40 am by Joe Moore under Aliens and Predator Toy News, Minimates Toy News

We’ve seen the Aliens Minimates at various shows over the past year plus. At times, we were prohibited from photographing them. Well, finally, io9 has been allowed to officially unveil them for DST. The first wave will include the following figures:

• Carter Burke
• Dropship Pilot Spunkmeyer
• Colonial Marine Mike Wierzbowski
• Xenomorphs

According to the article, there ill be “nine Xenomorphs in three different varieties.”. At NYCC 2013, we also saw both Ripley and Newt figures.

Here's a shot of Ripley and Newt for those that may have missed them.

The xenos all look really good. For Minimates, they're fantastic. Questionable human releases in the first wave though. None of the main protagonists? No Hicks, Hudson, Ripley, Bishop or even Vasquez or Apone? Burke is the only human character I would really want from series 1. The marine is a maybe, but we'll be getting a bunch of those I'm sure. But I'm sure they'll be packed with one of the nicer Xenos, so I'll probably have to get them. Haha.

Burke and the Xenos are a must-buy from the first wave, and I will probably pick up a lot more with Wave 2 and beyond. But like Joe, I really question the other two, at least for a wave 1 assortment.

Hopefully one of the Wave I packs will be an army-builder set with two Xenos instead of one and a human. Then we all could army-build and we wouldn't have a ton of dupes for characters we don't need (or wanted in the first place).

Well, Spunkmeyer was a crew chief, not a pilot, but I guess his character was so minor that no one even cares! Strange first wave assortment indeed. I'll pick them all up though just the same, as I'm sure I'll be glad I have them when the rest of the team are released in future waves.

Anyone packed with the Xenos will probably be a buy for many just to get all the variants of the Aliens. I also wonder, if the decide to do it, how they'd approach and Alien Queen Minimate. Might be fun to have an oversized Minimate figure for it.

Well actually this is not the first wave. This is a army dump. A total of nine xenomorphs and the three figures. So if you order a whole set you get 12 figures total.

I actually don't see that information anywhere. DST indicates these are the first single packs and the io9 story makes no reference to this being a later wave. Actually, they state that later releases will include Ripley and Newt.

Maybe they might do something along the lines of KITT and the Munster's Car for the Queen (or even the exosuit): a unique mold, but scaled to fit in with Minimates.

yes my bad. I know the article doesn't say anything about this being an army dump (troop builder) packs. I was just including info about these from Zach Oat over at DST.

AWESOME! Makes me upset though that NECA never completed the Aliens toy line.
