The Jada Toys Robocop 2014 photo shoots continue today with their 6 Inch Light Action Robocop 1.0 figure. This is the version most are looking forward to as it closely resembles the original 80s Robocop style. It sports a sliver and black deco, helmet/visor and big hand gun – all while being updated for modern times. Can’t ask for much more visually. Check out what we thought of the figure and over 25 shots of Robocop in action after the break!
A couple days ago we reviewed the black version of this figure, the 3.0 as it’s called in the new movie-verse. I don’t want to rehash all that here, as they are basically the same figure. Quality of plastic, articulation, movement, light up feature – all the same. That being said, this version has some positives that the black version did not.
First off, the silver is very well done. It pops off the black plastic well. I am partial to the original look and feel, but am OK with them trying new things. Have to see the black version in action in the movie before I judge. However, just as a toy, breaking up the black with this metallic paint does it wonders. Takes it out of the bootleggy zone into a piece that feels right.
Also differing from the 3.0 version – the mouth. Either the mold is more pronounced in this version, or, the paint was applied differently. Either way, you can see the mouth here and that makes a world of difference.
This is not a straight repaint of the black version either – this is an entirely new mold. It is structurally the same, but every part has different cuts. The guns do seem to be the same though.
While the 3.0 is either going to rock the back of the bottom shelf or get tossed in a bin to resell as fodder later – this 1.0 version is a keeper. As a slightly pose-able statue, it can represent this new era of Robocop in my collection just fine. Especially at 11.99, which is pretty cheap for 6 inch figures (with electronics) these days. Now, if NECA or another company starts putting out collector level new-movie versions of Robocop (see – Play Arts Kai), and the movie doesn’t suck, I’ll consider an upgrade. But we have to wait and see if this movie makes it worth the investment.
Enjoy the pics below, we’ll be doing the 4 Inchers later this week!

So, no mouth?
What exactly does the light up feature do?

The no mouth sculpt is the only thing I really don't like about this. the sculpting on the armor is actually really well done. that makes the lack of mouth detail all the more baffling.
Yeah the mouth, WTF?
Is this really the production figure? I find it difficult to believe there is no face on him... It even looks creepy.
Regarding the mouth - I think what happened is that they used a thick/heavy paint for that area, and it basically buried the mouth mold. You can slightly see/feel it, but just barely. If you were to strip that paint off, you'd have the mouth bump there.
_butterman_ on Instagram mentioned that he used an exacto and cut the mouth slit into the figure and it came out ok. I may try that later after I finish shooting, don't want to fark it up.
It's Slender-Cop!

Much better than the 3.0. Keeper.
Wow they are different suits, I always thought it was the same one. And you can see a mouth on this one.
I wish the silver one had articulated ankles. If it did, I would consider buying it. But since it doesn't, I won't.
That fleshy hand annoys me. The first thing I'd do is lop them both off, and add some hands with articulated wrists.
The 1.0 looks so much better visually. The all black is just kind of plain and boring looking. And after seeing that they're actually different I'm interested in seeing the 2.0 up close now.
robo toys don't look half bad except for light up robo cop who looks like giant funko pop figure with light up eyes
I might eventually get one Robocop toy from the new line just for nostalgia's sake, but my decision will have to wait until I see them all at retail first. Obviously, I'm leaning toward the 1.0 or the 2.0 at this point, but I'm still debating about size.

All it's going to do is stand there on a shelf or sit in a box, so I'm not too hung up on articulation. Besides, it's not like he had much in the original movie.

Horrible figures for a horrible "RoboCop" design. It's fitting.
Tell us how you really feel.
I still don't get the idea behind (or purpose of) the all-black version, but the silver/black one looks like a decent homage/update to me.

What I don't get yet is the hand and the facial hair. They're gonna have to do some mighty storytelling to pass that one off.
That said, I'll watch the movie with an open mind and have fun. No toys for me though.
Speaking of toys, that Neca ED-209 is just a tad late now, right?
i got the head of a black version on a gigoe Roc reactive armor fig. looks better as a soldier witha facy helmet than robo.
Speaking of the third movie, it stands as the lesson to basically leave RoboCop well enough alone. It's the result of not only cutting out the over-the-top stuff from the first film (and arguably the second), but also trying to "franchise the brand". Even with this movie, there's no need to retell the origin story in a new or different way. This generation needs its own "RoboCop" stuff, not the stuff from our generation recycled. I mainly mention that since RoboCop is a commentary of things happening in the '80s. I'm just really concerned about this generation having their own culture since much of it seems to be a recycling of ours instead with little originality.
I think it's your own opinion. Personally I like the idea of remaking Robocop with a new story. If they went ahead and copy it bit by bit then I would be totally against. I also love Robocop and I do not see any arm in a remake from scratch. If other movies had it why not Robocop. For sure the new technologies will bring us things that were almost impossible at the time or didn't seem so real. Anyway it's my opinion and I think there are people sharing both views. I still dream that one day they will remake Captain Power the series was great at the time but I'm sure they could do much better now with all these new technologies.
Resuming, unless you will remake a movie in which nothing new in terms of technology or story is brought then leave it alone. For example Batman was ok mostly because of the different story. On the other hand there are rumors now of a new Gremlins and this doesn't make and sense where will technology help? Ok so now we will have computer animated Gremlins instead of real ones but the ones from the 80s looked quite real to me most of the movie at least so 3rd movie sounds like kaka!!
At least this is my opinion, I'm actually quite excited about this new Robo and can't wait for Feb.
If they do make a third one, I hope it's a complete reboot and update to the basic story. Imagine the FBI, Homeland Security or the NSA being brought in to deal with suspected terrorist events that are actually the work of the Gremlins.
I guess it would all depend on what kind of tone the filmmakers want to set and whether or not the new film would be a sequel or a reboot.
